Good luck with the bow hunting, it’s tough but the reward is worth it

Got the velvet (flocking) done on my wife’s deer. It was pretty easy, as far as the look I’d give it a 4 out of 10. I should have went darker than tan. 1286EA71-0097-4B03-AD00-AC0A5190F849.jpg 1D08959D-4A42-4FF7-AA86-5558BFC5EB84.jpg

    This is 1lb of flocking.

It said to seal the horns after cleaning them otherwise the paint would soak into the horns and wouldn’t stick. I coated them with polyurethane.

It said you could catch the droppings and reuse them, that was actually tough and I wound up making a bigger mess than had I just done it without trying to catch them.

Painted, after painting it says you have 10 minutes to get the flocking on.

    16D7957F-C131-479F-BE40-CE24D0A297CB.jpg

Flocking put on, you fill the tube half full and I had to do it twice. Didn’t use much at all.

    D234A5BB-8056-429C-B516-0F199264B337.jpg 629B05E9-AFD2-460E-8CD7-27BA5FEE8C95.jpg 3D52D4F7-F185-46D5-9958-B1A5B5D4D908.jpg 71E503C4-5AF3-43C8-9B19-409618665B66.jpg

I just wish it was a little darker. This is how much flocking I had left and I didn’t put any back in the bag.

    7BFD421A-2C16-4B88-9120-BFAB95206898.jpg

It says let it dry for 15 hours, I'm leaving it here at work and will see what it looks like Monday.

If I was doing a bigger deer, I would do one side at a time, I did both at the same time.

Our deer here a 175lb one is good weight in the mountains,in the valley farm deer can get heavier due to the food supply.our biggest where we go in the mountains was 207lb dressed and was 7 1/2 old. never saw a corn field in his life..

I had no idea this could be done, good on you for giving it a go!
I agree that it could be darker but it definitely has the fuzzy look. Nice job!

we know he is at least 4 1/2.someone on other land must have shot at him cause last year he had a wound on his right front leg,was missing a chunk of meat.it healed but other pics you can see the spot missing muscle on his leg.the youngin has let him go 3 years now and see,s him during the season,.velvet makes em look huge.really want to see a pic when he sheds it.he is pretty much a local and youngin is trying to let him get really mature.but this year he may have crossed that line if he comes by me.shoulder mount!
