We've got cooler weather coming next week. It will be a a good time to trim some brush and replace a stand. Our bow season starts next Sat. I usually never get out before October 1st. Trail cams have disappointing so far this year.

Yeah it’s cooler than normal for this time of year here. That may have something to do with it.

I shot this one last year on September 13th with a bow, he had a little velvet hanging but had a pic of him September 6th and he still had full velvet.

Thanks, that’s the exit and also the 2nd biggest deer I’ve ever shot with a compound bow

Word on the street is you’ve shot some good ones with a bow

    Those are both great deer!
For having the privilege of hunting Illinois for over 25 years, I haven't done nearly as well as I should have. I spent the first 20 years shooting whatever the hell I felt like shooting (and had a blast doing it). Only in the last few years have I started playing the waiting game. My buddy says I may have the world record for 120" 8 pointers:anonymous:
My biggest problem has always been....when it gets really close to gun season I start to get panicky. Part of that is because the public land deer tend to find a rock to hide under for a few weeks. That panic is starting to fade though, it's alot easier to let them walk than it was just 5 or 6 years ago. And dragging deer out isn't getting any easier.

I used to shoot everything and anything, still would if we need meat. I’ve gotten better in my older age at letting deer walk.

Our 8 year old son is itching to shoot another one, I could care less what he shoots. I enjoy watching him.

My kid wasn't into it for whatever reason. I took him twice...short, comfortable trips...he got to see several deer...wasn't his thing. He's the same way with fishing; people starting to wonder who his dad really iso_O
    Enjoy what you have!

Dusted one with the garlic/pepper, the other two got the Chicago Steak. Put them all in the same bag and let them sit in the fridge overnight. Sorry, no after pics, not feeling my best today and trying to watch after a 5 year old and a 8 week old puppy!
