we leased a 350 acre in a hidden valley bordering a golf course and a farm in city limits that was bow only for 12yrs, we were on the county side of the road.which was gun n muzzle. huge bucks. cedar thickets for cover in an area that LEO’s had trouble with people stopping to look at huge bucks from the road. a preacher leased it out from under us. the landowner said we would let him hunt but NO, he wanted it all himself. owner was an old lady that went to his church. we called him and he wasnt very preacher like with his mouth.ahole!!

I have done a number of them the easiest way is to skin the head, boil for a couple/few of hours, then take a pressure washer, then hang them, in a few hours a couple of beers and your done (Make it fun)

Exactly how I do it except I add a little bit of oxyclean to the boil. It literally turns all the brain matter and nasty stuff to jelly then I just pressure wash it out from the back. Takes about 1.5 hrs boiling start to finish.

So I've been out 4 times looking for bears. Twice with the family twice alone. First trip was ruined by the kids whining and wanting to leave and I wasn't really feeling it that night anyway so we left. Second trip I went in deep solo, to a spot that usually produces bears early in the season. No luck, just elk. Which is fine with me because I drew the archery elk tag for the area. Anyway I take the family for a "roadtrip" Sunday for some lunch and figured I'd check some easy access spots while I'm in the area. We drive to a little lake do some walking around with the kids and head to my spot. Immediately I spot a bear on the hill side. Threw up the binos to confirm and hes a decent bear. Pretty chocolate. Head after him. Set up at 387 yards and all I could see was his ass. His front half was behind a tree. I said if he gives me a shot I'll take it. I'm set up on him for about 10-15 seconds and he ended up spooking a bunch of bedded deer. Animals come flying out of the woodworks everywhere. He ends up taking off. I stuck around for another hour while the wife and kids drove into town for some snacks. I backed out. Storm Monday so I stayed home.

Headed back yesterday. Set up in the area that I last saw the bear. Sat for about 2 hours no sign. Finally with only an hour left of light I figured I should poke around. End up going on the other side of the mountain. Still hunting, 20 steps and wait a minute, repeat. Ended up Bumping the bear at 40-50 yards. Pissed. Never got a shot opportunity. I back out and see some guys on the ridge to my west. They saw everything. Embarrassing right?

Well I look down the hill and see there's two trucks at the trailhead. Must be them right. I hike out in the dark with my head hung low. Just finished changing my shoes and they come strolling to their truck. We get to talkin' and they say "did you see them?" THEM? They told me there was two bears on that face and one took off before I got close enough to the first one. There was a jet black, and a cinnamon. I saw the cinnamon. We're exchanging stories and details of last night and they mention they saw the big chocolate cinnamon Sunday night after I took off out of there.

The pressures on in the area. My wife has a procedure on Friday that will ground me for the next two weeks. I'm trying to come of with a good enough excuse to get back out there tonight.

Oh the ups and downs of hunting.

Found this bear Sunday. Made a play for him but couldn't seal the deal. Had to back out because I brought my family with me.

I got the ok from the Mrs. to go Tuesday and try and make it happen. Long story short I bumped A bear. Not the same one but A bear. Look down the ridge and there's two dudes who saw everything. Embarrassing. We meet up at the trailhead and have a quick talk, they pretty much told me they've been out there 3 days in a row and have seen bears all three nights. Thinking to myself these guys are putting the pressure on this place. Damn.

My wife is having a procedure on Friday that would ground me for at least a week. I was so conflicted. I was already given the ok to go Tuesday. Which was supposed to be it until after her deal. After a few pep talks with some friends I finally put my foot down and said to my wife "I am a man, I can do what I want without your permission. So can I please go hunting after work? It will be THE last time I swear!!!" After some negotiations I was approved.

Headed out after work. Worried that the guys would already be there. Pull up to the trailhead and no ones there. I grab my shit and run up the hill to an OK glassing area. Not the best but it gives me about 80% view of the face. I sit and wait for a few hours. Lights fading and it was feeling a bit discouraging. I was grabbing my stuff getting ready to move around and still hunt the hill. I look up and he's right there. I GOT JACKED. It was going down. I could feel it in my loins. Closed the gap too 257 yards. Dialed. Settled. Squeezed. Surprisingly didn't miss.

Had a hell of a night. First bear. Packed it all out solo. Was a great time.
