The rut hasn't even started here yet. It's weird. Last couple of years it's been a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. Therefore, I took 2 weeks of vacation the 2 weeks before THanksgiving. And now it's lookin like it'll be closer to December before they start running.

going hunting with my uncle over thanksgiving, hopefully i'll be able to take my first deer this year. past few years we have been we haven't seen a thing....though they have seen deer the weeks before and after I am there...

on a side note, what calibers are prefered for yall when you chase white tails?

I was carrying a 7mm-08 for the past couple years...but my superstitious side has got to me so I'm bringing my 30-06 this year (good luck maybe?).

I've had a .243 for the past 100 years. Just bought my 30-06 though. It makes my pants move.

I'm a bit more worried about flinching on the 30-06 featherweight...kicks a bit more than my usually 7mm-08, but I have been running a lot of trigger drills with snap caps. I do a lot of target shooting as well, so I a hoping to alleviate that.

on another note, I forgot to mention, I'm gonna be hunting in northern Lousiana, if all goes well and I take a deer, I'll start hunting on my own on my parents property in TN.

Yea, there's a big difference in my .243 and the 30-06 for sure. Just do'nt think about it. Exhale and squeeze the trigger slowly. It'll pop off before you have time to flinch.

Yeah, I'm feeling it today. Headed out right now but probably only for the morning. Full moon and 70 degrees, so I doubt anything is moving, but I might pop a meat doe.

i have a old 30.06 Remington that barely kicks at all. has a hair trigger w/a 700.00 leupold, took a large doe last nite, 180 grain dropped her right there from 120 yards.

No need for the 180gr. I use 150s and they work very well. To each their own though

Yeah, lots of folks manage for big deer around here. Saw a really solid 8 point today but let him walk. Wind was insane so down out of the tree at 10:00am and back at it next weekend!

I got lucky last friday in PA's archery season. 35 yard quarting away shot through a 1 foot wide vertical window. Arrow went in mid stomach and came out behind the offside shoulder. She went 20 yards and called it quits. She looked alot bigger standing by herself but she is only a yearling. I still happy I got to play with all my new butchering toys and grinder.
