Heading to Glasgow Mt for a Muley/whitetail hunt next Friday. Hope to put a decent Muley down on public land out there.

Opening weekend harvested a doe for the freezer. That’s my trailing dog, Rosie. No lie. She does a great job. Also likes shed hunting.

Letting the young bucks grow for another couple of years to see what they become.

Hope everyone has a great season!

Well. Took the wife and kids out Saturday for a day hunt. All the smaller herds of antelope had now congregated together as 2 very large seperate herds. Drove by the honey hole in the morning and saw some antelope. Wife wanted to shoot at 400 yards just to confirm her abilities before taking a poke at an antelope. Drive down the road, set up a target, Take a few pokes at 300 then 400. She's solid. 1 inch high and 2 inches to the left at 400. Felt great. By then it was around 8:30. We drive a few roads and it was BLEAK. I mean it was sad. Couldn't turn up any antelope. The goal was to get out there in the morning and take something and be home by 5. At around 1 we reluctantly decide we should head home. Our eyes glazed over from glassing all day. Kids tired of riding in the car. We drive 20 minutes and decide to have lunch. After a quick bite to eat attitudes were replenished and we decide to hit it again. We drive back out and we see this big herd of 75-100 coming over this rise. We spot a good buck. I mean a really good buck. Probably the biggest buck I've see out there. Nice mass. Decent prongs. Perfect heart shape horns. I'm more of a non-typical guy. You put a perfect 180 inch muley next to a dinky whitey with a clubhorn, you bet I'm shooting a clubhorn. But my god was this antelope beautiful. He got my heartrate up and I wasnt the one shooting. Anyways we do the whole set up. Drive down the road past them. Wife hops out as we get close, she lays down in the field and gets set up while the antelope watch me. Problem was I ran out of road and was still within eyesight of the antelope. She ranged the buck at 350. But he never turned enough for her to take the shot. I started to turn around and by that time the antelope had enough. A week of getting shot at and they get real skittish. She ranged him again at 400 but still wouldn't turn. Eventually the gig was up and i drove back to pick her up. I get up to her and she puts her hand out flat and shes shaking lol. "Zeke, I can still see him in the scope... I'm shaking worse than the devil in a church.." Now my wife isn't one to get buck fever often. She's pretty calm most of the time. I'm the one who gets excited for both of us. She was pretty disappointed the whole way home. But that's hunting. Can't control what the animals do. That will probably most likely be it for antelope. General deer and elk opens this weekend. No huge plans just yet but I might go look for that clubhorn whitey :D
