Ethical in this sense isn't quite the same as fairness. I'm talking about ethical kills essentially. 100yds with a rifle you SHOULD have a clean shot to the vital where the deer dies in under a minute or so. There is minimal suffering when compared to a deer literally running until it gets caught or dies on its own because it's heart quits. Even if the deer gets away, it more than likely injures itself during the pursuit. So again there is nothing ethical about deer hunting with dogs.

i've seen a deer get hit by a car while being chased by dogs and it's lifeless body flew across the road into the other ditch. minimal suffering to that :D

that being said, i'd much prefer to still hunt.

As someone who farms; you would be surprised. Not the same as hogs, but they do, do crop damage. Though not as bad as elk.

It was just a question to incite a response. To each their own. Yes I know hogs will tear destroy acres of crop in a night but too many deer in an area will strip corn bare and eat soybeans to the ground.

    My family farmed in VA.

Nothing compares to hogs destroying over a single night. Place looks like mine field gone off with help of air attack . I'm no war hero but that's the only way I can describe the destruction.

I hunt and I don't agree with use of dogs. Some don't like that I don't hunt old school with recurve .

Exactly. Hogs can destroy someone's livelyhood in a single night. Deer don't do that.

I certainly understand the damage hogs do. Thank God we don't have them, at least yet. I just think its misguided to decide what animal is ok to hunt with dogs while bringing up "respect" for an animal or ethics. There are still plenty of people that don't have a romantic view of hunting when it comes to deer. They simply want meat on the table or population control. The trauma a dog inflicts on a deer is no different than a hog. Just because hogs do damage doesn't justify using a technique that does not minimize pain and suffering.

I've seen plenty of videos of hunting hogs with dogs. That shit is fucked up, for both the dog and hog. Granted I'm from Oregon and the State won't even let us hunt cougar with dogs, and all they do is tree the cat, not tear into it.

EHD & CWD have wrecked herds here, but we also have record crops this year due to proper rainfall. I think herds will bounce back quickly. Still plenty out there, just far less. Most counties have 1 or 2 antlerless limits along with one buck with at least 4 points on one side to let the herds rebound a bit

Wasn't paying attention and spooked the buck I've been after on my way to my blind. He had a doe with him that split, so I doubt he went to far.

I didn't see a thing Saturday morning on opening day, but I had a lot of friends get some does and 1 got an 8 pointer (posted 2 pics on the previous page). Sunday afternoon, I was out moving the stand and saw a big 8 pointer along the treeline, so I bet you can guess where that stand is right now! I'm really bored and was looking at our land on Google Satellite:

    land_zps95c5ee99_ec1a34133fc8ac77ab71c1e0cfce584327cb440c.jpg

The circled areas numbered in yellow are my stand locations.

The circled red areas are the food plots (that are just now starting to come up)

The circled blue area is where I saw the buck Sunday, so hopefully he'll be back through.

shoot, then get the head mounted. if it were a dwarfed calico, i'd get the entire thing mounted.

    that's full-body mount worthy just b/c of it's rarity!

EDIT: is albinism a genetic disorder? If so, I'd kill it just to keep from screwing up the population

it is a recessive gene, so both deer need it to spawn an albino, from what i've read.

ahhh. I guess that'd have to be pretty slim chances then. I'd still kill it for a mount, though......as long as it wasn't a spike or like 70 lbs
