I hear ya. I grew up in NC. Hunted NC, SC and AL. I much prefer the mid-west and western hunting now. Drawing for tags out here is just part of the deal. Too many folks want to come out west to hunt.

Yep drawing for tags kind of stinks, especially if you want to go for something like antelope or elk. Those are more difficult draws in Arizona. Coues whitetail and mule deer are easier draws though.

Anyone here have experience hunting state game land 57 in Pennsylvania? Just southwest of Tunkahannuck pa.. Planning a trip there for white tail this season. Any tips (not looking for your Spot) would be appreciated!

All I've seen so far is a doe with her two fawns, and a couple of coons, really disappointing.

That's a nice buck, congrats to the guy who got it.

A friend of mine who has property next to mine (and happens to use the same road in as me) said he saw 3 big bucks standing right near the property line, but I don't have any cameras set up at that end of the property so no pictures to confirm.

I'm really hoping they make their way south to where my stand is.

Part of the reason I'm not seeing moevement is we just built the road into the property and we haven't gotten any good plots, fields, or well hidden stands in because this is the first season we've owned it.

The weather here has sucked. It was in the 70s this week (about 20 degrees above average). The weather has the Rut runing late. There's barely any buck sign anywhere I've been. Monday (when I killed the big 4), I saw 3 bucks; a 3 point, another that I couldn't really see - just saw horns through the pine thicket, and couldn't get on him to get a shot, and that 4 point. Saw a spike and a doe Tuesday, then that 3 point again Saturday morning. I've seen a total of 22 this year.

I know this is a super late response, but I swore off TW until my semester was over...1st semester in law school and I didn't need the distraction of this damn website keeping me down

Wind and scent are your 2 biggest enemies in the woods, IMO. Stay downwind and you'll have the wind issue taken care of. As for scent, I never wash my hunting gear unless it gets bloody or something. A few days before a hunt, I leave all my gear outside to get the smell of the house off of everything. Don't leave your gun outside though lol. Some people buy into all that scent-lock clothing, soap, clothes spray, etc, but I think it's bullshit. I've been using my tried and true method with no disappointments. Also, don't buy into the latest designs and fads in camo. You can wear a brown sweatsuit and be fine usually. The main thing to do is be sure your outline is broken by being in front of a big tree with plenty of brush around you to make sure your silhouette isn't sticking out. I wear cheap Academy brand (Gamewinners) Realtree camo simply because it's cheap and lasts. I actually killed my last buck in khakis, Grey Nike's, and a dark green sweater lol...don't buy $200 Under Armor camo unless you want to b/c it's no more beneficial than old Army fatigues. Lastly, the 2 most important parts of deer hunting to me are feeding them and getting them used to you. I hunt on 63 acres and we shoot guns on the land every weekend and ride four wheelers all over the land checking cameras and running our dogs. This doesn't scare the deer away because they're used to it year-round. Of course, they run like hell when they see us, but they're used to our constant being on the hunting land, so they're not going to leave. Year-round feeding is what keeps our deer on our land more than anything. We plant 2-3 food plots each year and always have corn out. We also have a creek that runs through our land, so there's a water source. If a deer has food and water, he's gonna be happy. That's just my long-winded 2 cents.

Being in law school, I haven't been able to be in the woods much this year, so I've only killed 2 deer. I got a doe on opening day of doe days and one buck that I got a few weeks ago.
