Deer hunting BS thread

It’s a very tedious job but I always do my own and take an extra step and wrap each cut in saran wrap before the butcher paper. I had a bad experience years ago at a butcher place where I’m certain that I didn’t get my own deer back. I take great care of my deer in the field I don’t want to eat anybody else’s.

These pictures are from Saturday when I did the deer I harvested the previous Sunday… I had great temperatures for aging…..Gave myself a little treat and bacon wrapped some tenderloin medallions!

 

I hear rain,sleet and snow . It’s unknown how much at this time according to the Albany weather report

 

Looks like mostly rain they are saying now but Friday night 1-3” snow . I’m sure it will change by Friday

 

I do the same all the steaks and roasts are wrapped in Saran Wrap first this year I tried vacuum sealing instead of freezer paper. The ground meat is packed a pound in a quart size ziploc bag. I roll the air out and smash them flat they stack really easy in the freezer and thaw faster.

here in GA there's processors everywhere, that being said I do mines at home. Gutless method though, with 2 small slits on the lower side of the body to grab the tenderloins.

 

I've always cut up my own deer and then taken trimming to a meat market 35 miles away to get special items made. There products are real good..
I did take my whole deer, field dressed of course to a meat market, 8 miles away for two years for the convenience. Price was around $100.00 to cut up, steaks, tenderloins and grind burger all vacuum sealed. Ther special items were ok. They had a fire a few weeks back. This year l cut my own up. Took trimming to first market, we like their hot dogs and jalapeño cheddar sticks. I just don't like the price. I have made up my own breakfast sausage patties. I've also have taken my meat to the neighbors when he mixes up sausage. He has a real nice electric sausage stuffer.
Some meat markets are around here are no longer processing deer anymore or they only take clean trimmings.

All this processor talk, i had a dream about a buddy i grew up with last night, that is a processor. He had an accident a few months back, gunshot at the plant or something and had to be medi flight'd to a hospital. Still recovering. Weird deal. Still havent asked him about it. Figured i'd give him some time to recover, as i am sure everybody and their grandmother has been blowing him up. He has been hunting and shooting all his life, so i am not clear on how it could have happened.

 

hate to hear that; it just goes to show whether it was him or someone else, we're all human, and all prone to encounter mistakes, whether we're on the cause or effect side of it. No one expects that anything bad will happen to them, until it does. All we can do is take every precaution we can to "do things right" on our end, and hope that luck sees us through when someone else doesn't.

So just to piggyback off that into a different subject, ALWAYS tether in when your feet leave the ground, 1' up or 40' up, wear your harness please. Your family and friends thank you

You 25 again huh? Mine is in about a week and a half

 

Bout to have 3 weeks off and hope to put some more backstraps in the freezer... An early celebratory meal. I think animals can smell hunger so I gotta keep the cravings down
