a lot of bad ass stuff
I had a GOOD hunt yesterday. We had a nice dusting of snow here which is a rare. During early visible light I see a deer walk in. Appeared to have a decent silhouette but I was unable to make out any futures. All I can see on the scope is a black outline so I didn’t take the shot. I was mad thinking that was my deer. I sat about another 20-30 minutes and a young doe (I call her orphan Annie) comes down. I knew I’m not taking her so I just watch her. Then I see two more does and then another two does, come into the picture now I’m looking at five does. I pick out the biggest one with a back up in mind incase I can’t get a clean shot on # 1. I watch 3 of them go and hit the feeder while the top target walks behind the feeder to the other side. I line up my shot and take it. There is no mule kick and I don’t see any blood on the snow dusted ground as she runs off. The other does take off in the other direction and eventually stop while still in sight. I pick out the second best one and chamber another shot. I got her on the scope with a clean shot and I take it. She takes off and quickly drops and starts kicking to get back up and sprints a little ways. I then go into recovery mode. I’m able to find a blood trail on the first doe but I lose it once she hits a field. I stopped to go recover the second doe. It didn’t take long to find her. I called my wife’s uncle for help in finding the first one and within minutes I had two uncles and a cousin over helping me out (her family is awesome). In all honesty if I knew I hit the first one I dont think I would have taken the shot on the second one but I was determined to tag one. Especially after not seeing anything on my last four or five sits including those two bitterly cold days. Any how I know I typed a lot here but I thought it was pretty damn cool.

I remember paying $75 for my first one like 12 or 13 years ago

makes my $12 crown mounts look better and better. This deer was just so funky that I want to be able to pick up the skull and handle it to truly appreciate it

So…not apples to apples comparison but I did this Javelina Head using instructions I found online for doing European mounts. They are fairly easy to do, though it takes some time and a commitment to some fine detail work. A propane turkey fryer and large pot will do the majority of the work. Just add some Dawn dish soap to the water and bring to a boil. Lower to a simmer and add head for about an hour. Take out and scrape off meat and flesh. I used a dental pick to get most of the brain out through the nasal cavity. Empty pot, fill with new water and baking soda. Bring to boil and lower temperature to a simmer add the head for an hour to loosen remaining flesh. I then moved it to a Rubbermaid tub with soap and brushed it clean. You can then use peroxide and chemical whitening. I just used peroxide as I wanted it a little yellow. Super glue any teeth that may come out. I only had to glue one. It was a fun day long project. Though the neighbors were a little freaked out when they asked what we were cooking and we pulled the heads out of the pots…

You did a fine job! I follow whitebone creations on YouTube so I’m familiar with the process, just don’t have any of the equipment and don’t want to deal with the mess or the smell

It’s a skullhooker stand, they’re really sharp looking and nice if you’re running out of wall space. The skull just sits atop it and hooks on.
