We had a couple deer mounted by an older woman, she did good work. First time I walked in her shop I was amazed. She had 4 squirrels sitting at a table playing poker and some other odd things. What got me was the old car sitting in the driveway that hadn't been driven in years. There was a cat in the back window, I said doesn't the cat get hot with the windows up? She said no, that was his favorite place to lay so when he died that's where I put him

The obvious answer is to reload what you have. Otherwise, WalMart will always have 308s.

You could always reload for the .308 It's a great relaxing hobby that will allow you to fine tune ammo to your specific rifle. If you're looking for a round that will take you into your senior years with very little recoil, I'd include a 6.5 Grendel in your search. There are quite a few smaller caliber rounds that won't rip your shoulder off and will kill deer quite efficiently. Just my 2 cents worth.

Makes gutting in the field way easier IMO. Only downside is if you’re hunting in warmer weather and not going to skin/process it soon-ish it does leave more “warmth” down there. I just shove a bag of ice in the cavity sometimes if I’m not processing quickly. Gives me peace of mind.

He said it walked up right underneath the stand.
So he was shooting straight down.
