FWIW, I lived in an area with a high deer population. I looked into the "deer whistle" effectiveness.

The "deer whistle" claims to emit a frequency above human hearing, implying people can't hear it but deer can.

The frequency of deer hearing is up to about 30 kHz, most sensitive in the 4-8 kHz range. Humans can hear to about 20 kHz.

The hearing frequency range of deer is roughly the same as humans. So, if humans can't hear the "deer whistle", then it isn't likely the deer can hear the whistle.

Also vehicles make alot of noise as they roll on the road. So, your truck is the "deer whistle" due to the road noise it makes.

More props to your belief in the product. Me......I passed. The horn and flashing the high beams averted a couple of impacts. Many times the driver has literally no time to react.

^^ This. I've hit a deer and a moose. Both times they were on me before I could do anything about it. Fortunately those were the only 2 impacts out of many encounters.

In recent years, folks hiking Bear country have often been advised to wear/ring a bell to alert the large omnivores as to their presence. Old timers call this "ringing the dinner bell."

On country roads, high beams and drive slow (at least 10mph under the limit). I drive at night and I have to avoid animals almost everyday. Mostly cats, racoons, porcupines and skunks, but also the occasional deer.

Remember to hit the deer. Taking evasive action can kill/injure you as you hit something else (like a tree). Also if you hit the deer it's comprehensive coverage, and anything else as a result of trying to avoid the deer is collision. While training my daughter to drive in deer country I always stressed "hit the deer"

I've already got the DD amber fog lights, but I have thought about adding a light bar... or would ditch lights be better...? Also... should I go for those in white or amber color?

Got it! We've seen 10+ deer out in broad daylight just walking around our neighborhood. Plus, deer meat is yummy!

"Brake, don't swerve" is the generally accepted best collision avoidance method for deer. You're teaching her well.

Hit a baby deer with 1000 miles on the odometer. Was gonna cost 2700 to fix. Bought a steel bumper for 1500 and threw on some bright lights.
I know feel way more confident that at least when I hit a deer he might break a headlight or some shit but not total my truck.

I had lights and sirens activated on my fire truck and the deer still just walked out in front of me at the last second. I even asked the State trooper to cite the deer for failing to yield the right-of-way to an emergency vehicle. Hey it was 3 in the morning. :bananadance:

Also, if you do hit a deer, when making a claim to insurance the wording to use is ‘a deer hit me’

Some bumpers are made just for deer impact. This one made in Washington state says it's built for 60 mph hits.IMG_0233.jpg
