Defroster not blowing

Hello all. First time posting on here, so thank you for any help in advance. I have an 03’ Tacoma 3.4L 4wd xtra cab with 260k. I was driving the other day and I heard a clicking by my right knee to the left of the stereo counsel. I could see and hear where it was coming from and will post a pic once it gets light out. The clicking went on for about 20 minutes then stopped, after that my defroster would not blow. The heater/AC etc. blows as it always has, good. So it’s not the blower motor, but I think something is cutting off the defroster from allowing hot air to passing through. Any thoughts? Thank you!

 

Unplug it and remove the mounting bracket and see if the mechanism works by hand, reassemble and plug it back in. more than likely the plastic gear is stripped inside the "black box".

 

Thank you Glamisman! I’ll give it a shot after work. Is that black box just a relay?

Glamisman! It worked, defroster now blows.
The black box that is mounted to the bracket is now clicking again, so I’d imagine that will need replacing. Relay?
