LOL. I haven't quite yet copied a prior response to a text file to copy/paste... :)

I think the poor horse is fossilized at this point, really. :D

    No worries, it happens.

I like the idea behind this mod! I just have a quick question.

I've had vehicles with OEM remote start, but have never experimented with any type of aftermarket remote start solution. What are the advantages to being able to remote start your vehicle when speaking about climate controls? In other vehicles that have had OEM remote starters, you have had some kind of menu to adjust what happens to the climate control when the vehicle starts via remote start. I can think of 2 profiles I would use most often.

    1. Winter Time - Heat blasting, window defroster on, heated seats on, heated mirrors on, etc.

    2. Summer Time - Air Conditioning full blast

I know this may be alot to ask of a vehicle that doesn't already have OEM integrated remote start, but want sure.

    Any thoughts?

It would be difficult for the truck to know that you were in the driver seat and ready to go with takeover anyway, plus the steering wheel is likely still locked. This code would need to be written into the vehicle with a second start button push honestly. And at that point you may as well just turn the starter over again ;)

The one vehicle I've owned with factory remote start had none of that fancy climate control integration. It merely did whatever the controls were set to in terms of heat/cool/fanspeed/etc. If I though I would use the remote start the next time, I set the controls to what I needed before I got out and left it.

With my Tacoma being a TRD OR with P&T package, I have the auto climate controls. It'll turn on the heat or AC as needed to hit the targeted temperature. Don't know about the defrost elements, don't think they'll turn on.
    By the way, Roll Tide.
On cars with OEM remote start and takeover, I believe the trigger is usually pressing the brake; the car the looks for the smartkey and shuts down without it. Some may require you to also hit the start button but I'm not sure. I've only owned factory remote start in a keyed ignition vehicle. Had to insert the key and switch it to ON while not going all the way to START. :)

In my Tacoma I perform the exact same steps whether I've remote started it or not. Get in, foot on brake, press Start button, and put on my seat belt. *Maybe* if Toyota supported takeover I might skip the press-the-Start-button step and save a fraction of a second. I've probably spent more time writing this reply than I'd have saved over the lifetime of the truck. :notsure:

Looks like they finally got it put together. Haven't used it, but off hand from the photos it looks like they're pigtailing the connectors. OBD, ECU, and one other. Using a DBALL2 or DB3, so the functionality would be the same.

Just a matter of whether PnP is worth the extra $200

We actually have the "master" harness with 3 separate adapters. Adapters are vehicle specific. We did it this way for so the master harness could be used on multiple applications (16+ Tacoma, 14-16 Highlander, 17 Highlander, 16+ Prius, and the 18 C-HR, as well as 9 different Lexus vehicles)

Just a bit off topic. Just bought 17 sienna, anything available for that as far as remote start?

Got my Remote Start from 12volt.solutions yesterday. Installed unit in maybe 15-20min max. Compared to the $650 that Toyota want to put one one $250 is a great price for how easy it is to install.

What's the part number of the OEM Toyota unit for Tacomas? It didn't exist when I wrote my original post.

Good that there are options, though I'd still just do the $60 DB3 and XKloader DIY version. The wires aren't difficult to access or tap into. Still, it's good that there's an option for folks who want and are willing to pay the premium for a plug and play option, but I'd also gently suggest it probably needs its own thread.

Not sure what the OEM part number is through Toyota, I just called my local dealer and asked for a price. I'm a tech guy but still do not like cutting a splicing wires on my truck. This also gives me to option to quickly take it off and put it on a new Tacoma if I trade in for a newer truck with a few more options. Don't think remote start will ever be standard on the Tacoma.

Dollars to donuts they're just paying a local 3rd party shop to install an aftermarket unit. There are also a couple dealers who have been mentioned here that are repurposing Camry or Tundra OEM remote-start modules.

No matter, I was just curious.

No offense meant, and I understand that some folks aren't comfortable tapping into wiring harnesses, but I do have to chuckle at spending $200 to save the $28 a new DB3 module costs. :)

Toyota doesn't offer a remote start for the Tacoma or Corolla. They don't have an OEM solution because these vehicles are considered "entry level" per Toyota. Our dealer accounts charge $650 for remote starts. They bring us the vehicle, we install our stuff which ranges from $350-$400 and they turn around and make a huge profit on it.

If someone wants a DB3 module from us, just request it. We literally have almost 600 dball2 modules on hand and about 370 DB3 modules. once the dball2s are gone, we won't restock them. In all honesty, the faster processor makes zero difference on these Toyota applications. The DB3 flashes a lot faster, but as far as functionality in this vehicle.. no difference.

my dball2 has been installed and paired successfully as of today.

quick question for others... do you hear a click inside the truck after remote starting and opening the door? I am hearing a click in the dash (Not sure where yet) for roughly 3 seconds after opening the door and the engine is killed. wasn't sure if it was normal behavior?

everything seems to function properly - no dash lights/issues
