Would've got this on for you in an afternoon if I was still out your way. 5100's are nice but I'll always reccomend the 6112's and 5160's if you can shell out the extra coin.

I totally get that! I’ve done smaller stuff myself, like the diode dynamics fog lights and the Meso total tail kit. You probably also saw my posts about my recent sound deadening project, there were a lot of “I can do this” moments during that one lol

Would you say there’s any on-road ride quality difference between the 5100’s and 6112’s?

I too was hesitant about the install of the front 5100s using jack stands and a floor jack, but it was a lot easier than I imagined. I took the decompression part very slowly by just feathering off the floor jack and there were no scary issues. I managed the recompression step alone, but a second set of hands would have been useful.

My point being, I'm sure you can do the install, and the satisfaction of completing the work is very satisfying.

Once you do it once you’ll know. I’ve swapped my springs several times and the Ironmans are a pain in the ass. They don’t have the nitrogen pressure so if they push on something the shaft can retract and not be long enough to poke through the top hat.

The on base auto shop might frown on you using this method but really, as long as you’re smart, it’s probably safer than the actual spring compressor.

From my experience, on road there is very little difference from customer trucks ive test driven. The 6112's have better dampening. It's my understanding that the valving is slightly different between the two. If the truck is just your 9-5 ride and maybe a once in a while weekend adventure the 5100's are a great budget choice. Offroad or bumpy washboards etc are where the 6112's shine. The bigger body, more fluid, bigger piston, eats up bumps really well. If you are just looking for oem replacements that you may change down the road go 5100, if you plan on keeping the same setup shell out the extra coin for the 6112's.

Cool, that’s some great info! My truck is my daily driver but I also take it around North America on various adventures (hence the user name) so I was wondering if an upgrade would be worth it eventually. I hit some washboard roads in Glacier National Park in October that rattled my teeth lol

Nothing in the near future because my 5100’s are great and only have about 45K miles on them, but I was wondering if it would be worth upgrading when they get older. Sounds like it might be for my use case.

    Morning Ed and neighbors.

So you’re gonna save up for the 6110s and -0 offset wheels?

What color wheels you like? Bronze goes well and so does black. I’m not a fan of machined/silver/polished wheels

    Hey Eric,

Wanting the less expensive of the two Bilsteins...the 5100s.

I don't plan on putting a heavy front bumper and don't need the beefier springs/shocks.

I'm saving for the Diamondback Tonneau cover at the moment so I may get different rear shock?

I'm torn between the style of wheels I want.

Not into flashy wheels that are outrageously over-priced.

I've always like the SEMA wheels in black.

But this is at least 1.5 years away...the thought is in my head right now...but no purchasing at the moment.

lol, I misunderstood your other post and thought you decided on the higher end set. Good to hear about the decision even if it’s a bit away. Saving for them is smart!

Those wheels do look nice and if you don’t mind used, you can sometimes find them for under 1K on fb.

I think the perfect wheels are the oem rock warrior wheels. They look great but are rare. They were made in 5 and 6 lug with a lot less of the 6 lug version made.

Good morning Delaware + Friends. :pccoffee:

I've been reviewing wheels at tirerack.com; man! so many choices.

Not really sure what I want in the future.

I'll be enjoying the setup I have for now. :)
