Oh, our family did some transitioning to Delaware...we left the great country of Germany after a 3-yr tour.

Both our girls went to Caesar Rodney district schools and also kept in touch with all the friends they made since our tour in Hawaii (1999-2003).

Kids are resilient in that respect.

Plus, I appreciate the fact we are close to "Delaware Beaches":

    Rehoboth
    Dewey
    Bethany
    Indian River

But you're asking for your parents and I would recommend the housing communities I've seen...well kept and quiet.

This is after all, Lower Slower Delaware (LSD)...not just Sussex County. lol

New Castle County is obviously the more populated and closer to PA...our youngest & her hubby moved to Wilmington so there are nice areas up there.

Good luck figuring out where to go.

The USAF sent me here so we had to make the best of it.

Ha. So lower slower is actually a thing. I have heard it elsewhere.

    Thanks for the input

But you do know, now that you are retired you can move, right? :stirthepot:

I moved 8 times during my 25 year USAF career...I'm not about picking up again and moving on my own dime. lol

Plus, we've got lots invested in our home.

It's really not that bad...and we're enjoying towns...bit by bit.

My wife is from England and I grew up in SoCal/LA...where do you think we would move?

No, California is not an option...even though Mom would love for us to move out there.

as a lifelong Delaware resident i believe i can add some good insight. There’s three counties in DE, New Castle (where Wilmington, Newark, and literally half the population is, i always just think of this as the greater Philly area), then there’s Kent and Sussex. Dover is in Kent and the beaches are in Sussex, however other than the beaches, literally the entire rest of sussex is farmland pretty much, and the towns are fairly small. Kent is a good mixture of farmlands, and commerce and whatnot. Dover has pretty much everything you’d want, but the rest of kent county and anywhere in it is only 30 min from it. there’s a handful of 55+ communities in DE, and they’re fairly nice honestly. I should know because i was a lifeguard at one for a few years a while back. overall it’s a laid back state south of the canal, which i feel sort of cuts the state in density, keeping most the people to the north. there’s tons and tons of retirees that come to DE from NJ and NY, because it’s cheaper than there, so i’m sure they’d fit right in!

Very good summary Connor...3 Electoral Counties for Delaware...hip-hip-Hooray! LOL

Delaware Beaches and Tax-Free shopping are BIG reasons people flock down this way.

Don't forget...there's a bird sanctuary here as well at Bombay Hook.

At Cape Henlopen State Park, there are remnant watch towers that looked for Ships and U-boats/submarines during WW II.

We've done the Dogfish Head Brewery tour (before it was bought out) as well as Fenwick Island.

It's a quaint state and nothing like where I grew up in Los Angeles.

I seem to like it...and our daughters come home most weekends from Middle River, MD and Wilmington, DE for visits.

EDIT: Don't forget...the oldest city in Delaware: Lewes

EDIT#2: Also, the southern terminus of the Cape May-Lewes Ferry.

I have one more trip to make down to MD , maybe I will swing by lower slower and check it out. Furthest south I’ve been in the state is 301 heading into MD.

    Thanks for the input

Morning Ed! Lady friend and I are spending the day at the beach today. Then I need to work on the truck. October's event is coming quick and the list of things keeps growing for what the truck needs.

    @Strictlytoyz

I plan on going to Indian River Inlet Beach tomorrow morning...early-ish...like leave at 7-7:30am.

Get there before the mad rush and do some Boogie Boarding. I have a 7.5' surfboard but I'm not physically fit to be on it! lol

I'm not scheduled for any upgrades...just an oil change and wash when the weather suits me and I'm in the mood to wash. lol

    Have a great weekend!!!

Well having Safelite replace my windshield 3 weeks back, I realized yesterday on my commute to work that my signals nor hazards were functioning. They were showing on the dash but not in the rear/headlights. Safelite for some reason removed the fuse inside the cab. I was not aware until a driver behind me laid on his horn when I signaled to make a right turn. Safelite, when questioned denied everything. I’ll never use them again. Those fuses don’t just ‘fall out’. It takes a tool and some effort to remove them.
This was the Safelite in Wilmington.

That’s pretty crazy. I wonder if there is a reason to remove a fuse when doing the windshield for the safety sense or lane sensor thing.

    Thank you. Live and learn.
When I told the manager it’s illegal to drive with no turn signals and he refuted… I knew what I was dealing with.
