I just bought a new 2019 TRD Off-road with the manual transmission. Not sure if it being a manual has anything to do with my issue but I figured I would mention it in case. I've started the engine about 10 times since I bought it this morning, and more than half the times this is what happened:

Engine will not start when I turn the key all the way clockwise. Check Charging Station message is displayed. If I wait until the computer boots and I hear the radio start playing and try again after I hear the radio, the engine starts no problem. Any idea what is going on here? It doesn't happen every time, but at least half the time. It didn't do it when I cranked the engine and left the dealership or I would have asked them. But I made several stops on my 450 mile drive home and at least half the time this happened when I cranked the engine after stopping. It isn't an unbearable issue because it always starts after waiting 5-10 seconds, but it could be a safety issue if something caused me to stall out and I need to start the engine immediately.

I really can't imagine what the radio has to do with it, maybe a coincidence, but every time this has happened I have tried turning the key again before the radio turns on and it doesn't work. If I turn the key immediately after I hear the radio, engine starts right away.

Kinda sounds like an issue with the immobilizer to me.

Or you may not have the clutch pressed to the floor fully to make it start.

^funny they make you have the pedal all the way to the floor when the clutch engages at the top, eh?

Thanks for the quick replies. I am not new to manual transmissions. The first thing I did when it didn't start is double checked the clutch was pressed to the floor and tried again immediately, to no avail. When I tried again after the radio turned on, it started no problem.

The warning message you’re getting is odd, i’ve not seen that.

Thinking about the immobilizer issue 513Mugsy mentioned, I wonder if it could have been caused by me having both keys present since I was on my way home from the dealership. Maybe having 2 RFID's or whatever security device is in the keys confused the system?

Nah, i’ve had my second key in the glovebox on my manual trans one for a month now, no issues. Pretty sure on the old style keys you get with the manual it only detects the key when its actually in the ignition.

My extra key was in my pocket, so a little closer to the ignition than inside the glove box. But yeah I'm sure you're right. Just throwing it out there. If it keeps happening I guess I'll take it to the dealership eventually. I doubt they will know though if nobody here does.

Have you tried throwing it in N and starting with the clutch start cancle to see if you get the same result?

Definitely not normal. I can hop right in and crank the engine over, no delay at all.

My husky mats keep me from starting some times. I have to push fairly hard on the clutch to get that switch engaged.

I cut a small section out of the mat to allow the clutch to go all the way down.

Only read half your post (sorry TL: DR)... It sounds to me like your clutch pedal isn't depressed all the way. Check it and see if when the clutch is depressed it is activating the switch. I taped a felt pad (the one you put under furniture legs to prevent scratching the floor) on mine to add an exta 1/8 inch and now I only have to depress the clutch aboit 90 percent before it starts.

That warning is a normal message I've seen in multiple trucks. Anytime it has the key all the way turned but the truck is not started. Not sure what it's all about but I figure it's just a message to remind you that you're using the battery without the motor running. It's a non issue. As far as OPs issue, I've got nothing, other than to check the battery voltage.

It has become a habit for me to use the clutch cancel button. When the seating position is comfortable its easier than pushing the clutch all the way.

Excuse me for being ignorant on this, but does that use the alternator to start? Meaning more wear and tear

    ^ nah brah

Clutch start cancel removes the requirement for the clutch pedal to be depressed for the engine to crank over using the starter. In the manual, Toyota actually recommends you do this to get going on steep inclines. I’ve tried it, doesn’t work well. Why they gave the automatics brake-hold assist on hills but not the stick-shifts, i have no idea
