Warranty does not get voided due to you changing oil. Take it in to get sample ran, including old oil w shavings if you have it.

Your warrant does not get voided by changing your own oil or using a wix filter. Toyota would have to prove the filter was the cause of the failure to void the warranty. If you still have the filter, take it with you and have it cut open to see how many shavings are in it. For a sanity check, I'd also see if they can have the oil pressure measured.

Incorrect. The dealership has to prove that it was him changing the oil himself that caused the damage for it to void the warranty.

It'll help if you have the receipts for the filter and oil... I remember some years ago that a bunch of mechanics sued to where a law passed that would allow them to work on customers' cars and it not void the warranty.

Take it in and have them look at it, Although even if there wasn't any gray area's they would still probably not do anything because the truck is running and driving fine.

You need to take it in while it's still under warranty. This will 'document' a complaint (on your behalf) in case further issues develop.

You mentioned you found these shavings on the filter itself.... Did you see any in the old oil that you drained out?? Or have you only seen it at or on the filter?

Are you finding any shavings on the drain plug (magnet)?

If you pull your dipstick, can you see it on the dipstick?

Put a few hundred miles of this oil change then send the oil off to have it analyzed. We do this (oil scans) at the John Deere dealership I work for on equipment we want to certify for extended warranty. The place we use (its through JD) can scan engine oil, transmission (hydraulic in tractors), and even antifreeze. I don't know who to tell you to send it to, but I'm SURE there's places that do this for individuals.

They can tell you what's wrong by what the particles in the oil are and what amounts of each there are. Good luck

I work for a Deere dealership too. I think Hy-Gard smells good. Do you?

That is not a good place to look. That filter housing surround can catch all kids of nasties.

Were there " shavings " or just shiny specks in the drippings.

Send a sample to Blackstone as mentioned above and quit sweating the load your drive train warranty is good for 60,000 miles.

Fixed first post. Sent from phone w/ autospell that changed what I wanted to say. Does NOT void warranty. Good advice above. Get it documented immediately then sample in a couple hundred miles.
