This is really helpful. Thank you. I don't know that dealerships can be this thorough. I'll need to check for ATF level myself, following the simpler procedure of letting the fluid cool down to 112F.

It's intimidating though because it sounds like you have to get the fluid at just the right height. I don't know what's worse now... under-filled or overfilled?

3 qts is a LOT, but being that the pan/sump where the ATF is drawn from holds less than 3qts if i read the specs correctly, I fail to see how the truck would even move.
That said, a lot of today's auto transmissions are more electronic than hydraulic activated and the WS ATF is pretty good.
Moreover, as in a standard transmission the grunt works still gets done at the gears so there would still be plenty enough lube there. In other words, if you don’t hear any strange noises, or clunks coming directly from the trans, as opposed from the diff, you’ll most likely be fine.
You have documentation and if something is wrong from it, you will know it way before the warranty runs out.
    Best of luck
    Cheers!

Barring a leak from a seal or line rupture, transmission ATF lvls is best left alone. There's no consumption as like in engine oil to be that obsessively concerned about. My last vehicle had almost 200k on it, and i never took out the dipstick to check it. It ran flawlessly :)
    Hope that helps Cheers!

Tell Toyota Corporate you are Smitty99 on Tacoma World. Odds are their communications people know who you are already haha. I am sure a few people at least have backed out of getting a Tacoma at least party because of your posts. Toyota could get some good positive press on here if they just fixed your issue for good.

    :crapstorm:

    To answer your question no.
Never in 13yrs or radiator flush either, only oil & filter changes every 3k. Mineral oil back then, dipstick was so clear you couldn’t see the mark.
Always check for any and all fluid leaks, never had any.
Both ATF & Radiator fluids were rated by Toyota as “long life” and I can assure you they are!
Which I should have kept it to see if it was “eternal” life, but the insurance rate increase on this new 4X4 made it impractical.
But to be fair, I haven’t done that since ’95 on any vehicles including to two Fords either, one 12yrs and the other 6. Only the six yr old had a common gear position sensor issue (Crown Vic) not ATF related fault at 45k miles.
This is the reason I buy Toyota, I don’t have time or desire for the Fix Or Repair Daily B/S, but if I did, I’d buy a used vehicle. So far I’m happy!

    Hope that helps
Now back to topic TSB results yes?
    Cheers!

So I had my TSB done Thursday morning (30 min with an apt) and so far I am extremely happy. Just drove it from the dealership to our office. Very responsive now when I step on the gas to pass. Downshifts smoothly and quickly. I have been manually shifting my truck since I got it and I didn't feel any need to do that today. No delay from P - D or R and R - D.
I was 3/4qt low on tranny fluid on a previous visit.
I have not used my cruise ever so I cannot elaborate on that.
Minimal surge when I back it into the shop, surged quite a bit before.
Haven't driven it on the fwy yet to elaborate on fuel mileage.
No sticker didn't have them yet. Not to concerned since I have a copy of the work order and It's documented on my Toyota Owners account.
I drive to Hayward on Monday's to visit my Granny, the real test will be going over the Dublin grade. It was constantly gear searching and shifting to a higher gear so I would manually shift it. I will post my experience next week.

I can't say enough good things about Livermore Toyota, they have been extremely helpful and understanding with my concerns. I always get the "look" when I take my vehicles in to the dealership, you know the one "You're a woman and you don't know what you are talking about". Not here, they take great care of me and my truck and "listen". I usually see Marshall when I take my truck, today I saw Carol and she was just as nice and helpful. Super nice people.

BTW, I did ask the tech about it reverting back, not possible with this TSB update. It's basically retuning your tranny (which is the reason for the sticker). I will post another update next week.

Got mine done today. Initial results are very promising. Pretty much what everyone else is saying.

Feels like it has more power and shifts like I would expect. I have only driven about 15 miles so this is just preliminary. I wouldn't call it perfect, but it's good enough that I wouldn't notice any issues if I wasn't really paying attention. I'm sure it's still "learning", but I really like it so far.

I've got a 1000 mile road trip coming up in a couple weeks. We'll see how it does on the open road and in the mountains, two places where the transmission has struggled in the past.

Dealer was great. No pushback and worked me into a full schedule.

I take what the techs say with a grain of salt. Especially after seeing all of the conflicting misinformation spread around from dealership to dealership. These guys are not the toyota engineers developing the software. Half of the dealers don't even know the TSB exists

I atleast hope that mine is updatable someday. For right now it's fine, typical cruise and once in a blue moon R to D delay. The delay is not all the time though. I'll have to bring it to the hobbyshop on base and put it on the lift to check the fluids. No Toyota dealerships on Kodiak Island. Might have to take. A ferry trip to Homer and drive to Anchorage. Maybe I can get it put on a c130 =P Maybe see if someone needs a Load Master check ride!

At the dealer having the TSB done now. First they tried telling me my truck doesn't apply. I said yes it does, all V6 automatic Tacomas fall under the TSB. Service advisor looked a little deeper and found it. I have high hopes that I have the same positive results as everyone else. Time will tell. Look for my review tomorrow evening after my 300+ mile road trip!
