Sucks to feel swindled OP. But like others have said, you’ll learn from it and enjoy your truck. Shit does piss me off though. Did a search on cars.com for 2015 TRD PRO - out of 70 listings that claimed that trim level, only four were actually pro.

    Caveat emptor.

A lot more to it to add the SR5 upgrades than $500 will buy.

I don’t think you were scammed.
    Just an uneducated consumer.
Tough lesson, but a valuable learning opportunity.

Remember this lesson, remember it well.

It will save you a lot in the long run, when you are looking for the girl you want to marry or the house you want to buy.

A car or truck is not a decision with long term consequences, a wife or house is.

I found all mine through junk yard resellers. these parts are used in a few of Toyota models spanning from 2013. If you're smart you dont go to the dealership for your parts.

My grandparents bought my first car for me. :anonymous: They scoured the newspaper over breakfast and found a super clean 83 Cimarron for sale, cream yellow with yellow leather interior. They paid $350.00 for it. It got me around town somewhat easier than my bicycle, so of course I was grateful. I never actually walked onto a dealer's lot until I was in my early 20's and doing it by myself, though.

Working in dealerships for over 10 years I can tell you there are plenty of sales people that have 0 clue what they are actually selling. Most care about one thing. The sale, because that’s how they make a paycheck.

You checked the truck out, you drove the truck, the price was what was advertised and I’m sure there were plenty of pictures on the website before you drive there and looked at it in person, along with a description of the features. It’s on you to do some homework, especially buying anything preowned. I’ve seen multiple cases where badging, or stickers were added to cars being traded in and the dealership assumed it was a higher model/trim than it actually was. Also seen where they sold it as such. It happens.

Chalk it up to a life lesson. You’re only 18 and have lots of unexpected things laying around the corner for you in life. This is only the tip of the iceberg.

And he said it was a week and a half from the time they looked at it and the time they went back to buy it. Plenty of time to pull up a Toyota brochure or find Tacomaworld and find out.

I wonder if kids today ever even pick up the brochures. Every time I'm getting an oil change I notice its the old farts that are browsing them, while the younger people are annoyed by the litter thats covering the coffee tables that they want to rest their tablet on.

Brochures were the go-to quick-reference guides back in the days before internet. You just had to look past all the glossy pictures of the vehicle on a scenic picnic with a totally happy, not at all dysfunctional family, Mom! Usually the back pages have a table showing trim levels and standard equipment. It's a great checklist to grab and reference when doing the first walk around the lot.

I would have thought an 18 year old would have his/her phone out while talking to the salesman.
Hell, I am 42 years old and I had my phone out with a brochure downloaded when I first started looking for a Tacoma. Same with the Rav4, the wife knew what she wanted and did not want, so we downloaded a brochure to see what we needed to look for.
