I personally think credit cards are okay if you're disciplined enough. Granted he is 100% right that credit cards will make it so much easier to spend money.
But I don't hold both of my 7 year old credit cards (no annual fee) for the points. I just need the credit history and payments for my score. I know he hates the credit score but I plan to buy a house with minimum 20% down (40% if I can wait a few more years) so I can control escrow and avoid PMI. Thanks for your insight! Well I'm not sure if I want to live in Dallas in the next 7 years, so I backed out of buying a $200,000 starter home. I had the 20% down ready but it was in a rough neighborhood, school districts sucks, and I'm a full time college student (company sponsor). Honestly if I was selected on last month's layoff, I would have taken that package and move to North Colorado lol. I'll shift my priority to real estate if I get married, there is no rush for me to buy a house right now.

So would 401k and HSA not be enough for retirement when I'm pumping $18k - $19K year after year to take benefit of 34 years of compounding interests? If not, then how much money do I need to retire :O

I think you said you were 31. You should have kids, they define you as a man. So you want a number from thin air...figure out how to have 5M at age 70. Yes 18k/yr is not enough.

Honestly, it took me years and years to get to this point. I'm 31 and my parents are first generation to this country. I don't have a college degree but I like computers so I worked in IT for 14 years now. I make decent money but far less than average dual income family since I'm single and have no kids. The only reason I can buy my dream truck was reading self help books 6 years ago. First book was Dave Ramsey. Easy to read but VERY hard to follow it.

Here is a TLDR:
1. Get out of debt. I paid this truck with previous car trade in value and cash.
2. Save 6 months of emergency money and DONT touch it! My company went through a layoff last month. I survived but this money gave me a lot of piece of mind, and I can find another job before 6 months.
3. Max out 401k and HSA, gotta plan for the future.
4. Any money left over, budget. I'm saving for that $3.5k RTT and diamond back cover rails and should be done by next spring.

Kids define what kind of man you are? Im not buying that. What you do with the short amount of time you have on this earth defines you. I know a lot of cool guys that dont have kids, and I know some unfortunate kids that have dipshits as fathers.
