Anyone else run tried and true delo 15w40 diesel oil in their 3.4?
Ran it in my 1998 for bout 100k miles before I pulled it and swapped it for my 4bt. Still ran like a top.
Run it in my wife’s 1997 4Runner as well.

    Why?

I just run what the manufacturer suggests.

Cause I get delo at next to nothing. 3 gallons at a time for $5 and keeps everything inside the engine perfectly clean

Probably not everyone has those kinds of connections.

If it seems to work for you and you get it for that cheap, you do you, but I would at least stick to a viscosity the Toyota motor calls for. Mine calls for 5w30.

Also, there are different additives that deal with gas vs. diesel combustion, so I guess it depends on how to determine what "clean" is.

This site is filled with "people believe" and "many assume" which isn't very convincing.

This is the main thing though:

The oil itself is fine for gas engines (my 84 F250 7.5L has had Delo in it since it was new, it has 300k on it now and the engine is clean as new on the inside) but the 15W-40 viscosity is a bit too thick (10w-30 is the highest recommended for the 3.4), you may could get away with it in a hot climate but I would be nervous about running it in a mild to cool climate.

I’m Not to worried about it. The 4Runner We have that I run it in now has 298k on it so it’s already pretty loose.

I'd run Rotella T6 5W40 or the equivalent Delo 5W40 but 15W is too heavy in my opinion
