Ok everyone. Great news! I spoke with Jason today and this bumper is definitely happening! There are, however, some hurdles that we must get through first. He mentioned that Gen 1 Tacoma's have 3 different frames. They're close, but different enough to where he'd need access to all 3 types to make a "one size fits all" bumper. Is there anyone in SoCal that would be willing to take their truck to him for a day or week or whatever he needs so that the proper measurements could be taken? The years for the different ones are:

1995.5-1997 - He needs a "donor" for some time to take measurements.
1998-2000 - Same deal as above
2001-2004 - I am willing to drive down to SoCal and let them use my truck since I have a 2003.

Once Jason has measurements from all the trucks, the universal Gen 1 front bumper can be made. Yayyyyy!

Please post on this thread if you are willing to let them borrow your truck and the year of said truck. I have a ton of friends in SoCal so I'm going to make a little mini vacation out of it. :) Jason should be following up on this post pretty soon.

Once again, thank you all so much for making this happen!

No idea... you're not the first person to ask this question. Jason will probably have to chime in...

    Umm

    What?

95-97 and 01-04s have the exact same frame mounts. The only one that is different is 98-00. The grill sticks out more on 01-04s but that's the only difference from 96-97.

Two simple ways to go about it. Either tell people that buy the bumper with 98-00 to cut off 3" of the frame and weld in new end mounts. Then it's exactly like 95-97s and 01-04s. Several companies have done this.

Or do something like trail gear with the mount plate that allows the 98-00 frame to just poke through.

Designing 3 different bumpers seems..well..a waste.

But that's just my opionion. I like the overall look though. Nice to see another option for our trucks.

Doubt. Very very different frame mounts.

This is good information and thanks for clarifying. The idea is to make a "one size fits all" bumper, not 3, so if the only options are what you suggested then maybe that's what will happen....

But for 3rd gens, I think you can cut off the frame ends like you mentioned with some of the Tacomas, depending on year. I think that's what people do for the ARBs and AllPros.

How my elite bumper install works. And I think relentless.

I have no idea. Anything is possible with a grinder and welder though.

That's actually exactly what we are going to do. But we need all three to make sure that a little difference in one doesn't effect the other. And yes the 95.5-97 and 01-04 are extremely close But the grill is a different. We'd like to do this once and not have people angry when things rub or hit funny":)

That's a strong possibility. the frames are close but they have slight differences. I believe the last year 2003 also may have some weird almost 04 ish mounts. I can't remember it's been a while since I've seen one of those front ends naked.

We are looking for a truck to barrow the week of Jan 9th-13th. If anyone has one available you will get a significant deal on your bumper and lights..
