I've offered my services before to anyone who wants to pay for them. That offer still stands.

Quick answer is that it would take a legitimate amount of time to answer any of those questions.

ARB is good stuff. Someone actually thought things through for more than 3 minutes. That much is obvious.

I think being rated, with a figure is all we mean. I don’t believe just labeling something “recovery rated” is any better than saying nothing, unless it’s been tested and an actual # limit is provided.

I wouldn't because that is beyond my level of interest and expertise. :)

The folks at ARB claim the following: "ARB’s engineers have developed the recovery point in conjunction with standard bumpers and ARB protection bumpers to use points within the chassis to achieve a 17,500lbs rating. Four mount points are included per recovery point to ensure that there is no torsional twist on angled pulls."

I would say that is a benchmark, for sure. If you read through their Web page (which is hard to navigate) they have a lot of info on this. There is also a video where they talk about how the design mounts and how they engineered it to work with their load rating at angles -- which is how most recovery efforts take place."

I am not sure if they were there first but they definitely are very open about their specs and their engineering, which goes a long way for me.

Another company who does this really well is Leitner. ARB and Leitner are engineering led companies for sure. If you look at all of the bed racks out there, they are one of the few who post this kind of info:

    Off-Road Dynamic Weight Capacity | 400
    On-Road Dynamic Weight Capacity | 800
Parked Static Weight Capacity | 1400
Designed, engineered and manufactured in the USA
    U.S. Patent 9586629

I don't have all of the answers but I do tend to like the companies that test, validate and publish their ratings very openly. As for me, personally, I am willing to pay for that.

I have the RCI front skid which is attached with multiple heavy bolts. Could attaching to the plate provide a recovery point? Could hooking onto the plate at these openings provide a recovery option? 3/16" steel plate with two attachments to spread the force?

At some point in one of these many threads about these particular brackets, somebody either emailed or otherwise found confirmation from the company the brackets are not for recovery use. Would be cool if TW had a feature to save a particular post, rather than trying to remember the thread and post # or URL.
I can't be assed to dig that deep for it, tbh.

For the rest, plenty of the bumper maker vendors on this forum could answer as to what makes their products more secure than these, I'm sure.

I tried to look for it as well as I remember that clearly and it's the reason Demon brackets were never on my list.

But that entails thought to save it at the time and then starting a spreadsheet with all the info to try to remember it......

    FYI, from the company:

    Thanks for reaching out,
Its up to you if you decide to use them for recovery, Mainly they are for looks but are able to handle up to 8k before bending/ causing damage to the hooks. The mounting brackets however are able to handle the full amount of the vehicles weight ratings. so if you choose not to use the hooks you can pull them off and attach to the mounting bracket.

I wouldn't feel confident asking for a recovery with these things but if it was all I had, it's better than no recovery at all I suppose :fingerscrossed:

So even they don't know what they are talking about.. by 'hooks' they must mean shackles, and 8k is a bit above most 3/4 pins 7k lbs limit.

'Full amount of the vehicles weight rating' on the brackets.. err, ok then.

There unsafe, some dumbass will try to snatch you out of whatever you're stuck in, they will rip off at a high rate of kinetic energy and smash through the back of his truck or slam into the back of his head killing him. Now good luck with them.

So, towing at best? They're not couching their language like they did last time.

Who is gonna be the first to try to snatch these with a tow strap? (don't actually do this at all)
