I just recently re-read Dune, and while it was still a great book, it didn't strike me as hard as it did when I first read it.

I ventured more toward Niven and Saberhagen after reading Dune the first time.

That said, looking forward to another attempt to get the world of Dune onscreen.

I’d love a good, serious attempt to translate some later Heinlein to the screen. HBO would do a great job with “Stranger in a Strange Land,” or “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.” Or any of the Stainless Steel Rat stuff.

Then again, I’d REALLY love to see John Scalzi’s “Old Man’s War” turned into a series too. That would be great.

The Bobiverse of “We Are Many, We Are Bob” would be amazing, but it might be too hard to translate.

not trying to be a dick, but Heinlein didn't write the Stainless Steel Rat, it was Harry Harrison, who also wrote Make Room!Make Room!, the basis of Soylent Green.
And I'd rather see The Forever War made into a movie/mini-series than the older Heinlein stuff. Ridley Scott was supposed to be doing it, but haven't heard anything about it.

I know Harrison wrote the rat - been reading it since the 70s.

Just free-flowing books that would translate well to the screen.

    There are too many.

Indeed, personally, I think Falkenberg's Legion would make a perfect series, on the order of say, Sharpe's Rifles or something like that.

Oh HELL yeah!! Dark, gritty, and has a real Game-of-Thrones-vibe in that characters you like DIE IN COMBAT!!

Plus the whole aspect of Pournelle's space movement, combat, and the planetary political/economic/sociological intricacies would be fascinating. They'd just have to write around the whole CoDominium thing, but that's doable.

Not meaning to derail but does this story start with “The Prince”?

I looked it up and it seems like it was originally built from serials and such..

The Prince is an omnibus of all the stories put together. Originally it started with West of Honor, then The Mercenary, and then those two were combined into Falkenberg's Legion. Then Prince of Mercenaries, Prince of Sparta, and Go Tell the Spartans! (I may have the order mixed up). But if you get The Prince (hardback version only is what I have found, would like to have it on Kindle cuz it's a heavy mother) it not only has all 4 books plus some additional stories. There's also a few Falkenberg's Legion stories scattered in Pournelle's Let there Be War series, and some in the War World series, which almost all takes place on the planet Haven.

I looked it up and it seems like it was originally built from serials and such and I found it confusing :D

And until we actually get a Dune trailer that we can argue incessantly over until the next Dune trailer, this is what we have.

    I'm cool with it.

    Please continue!

Okay, I really like Pournelle’s books. I’d love to see his Janissaries series made into a movie. Nothing futuristic, for the most part, just the melding of soldiers from across the centuries. The best thing is, while looking up how to spell Janissaries, I discovered there’s a book in the series I’ve not read! Been awhile since I’ve read them, I may just download the whole series.

Mamelukes, the 4th book, was just released posthumously in June. David Weber and Pournelle's son helped finish it.

Pournelle and Niven collaborations are some of my favorites.

Footfall, Mote in God's Eye, Lucifer's Hammer, on and on.

Would love to see Footfall brought to the screen.

An accurate portrayal of an Orion launch would be spectacular.

    Great stuff.

I'd love to see Andy Serkis do a motion capture Motie.

I think that the CGI capabilities are only fairly recently to the point where they could do a serviceable rendering of a Motie, or one of the Fithp.

It would be great to see the Motie warriors onscreen!

I'm now going to have to read these. Never heard of them until now.

Also, if we're redoing Dune, I would like to see a true-to-the-book movie series of Starship Troopers.
