Denso Fuel Pump vs. OEM

Get a really good look into the pockets that are created by the shock mounts.

There’s actually NO drain hole especially the passenger side that slopes down hill.

I’ve debated about drilling drain holes on both of these.
The shock mount cover 3.5 of the 4 sides.

A great place for rust to grow

Fluid fluid I’m guessing is the only option, but theses no way to look in there beside a borescope and
no way to sand in these pockets or paint in there completely

I actually thought about filling the pockets up with axle grease or with a grease gun to seal up any rust. Haha

 

The inside doesn't look bad from what I remember. I want to clean up the gravel rash and surface rust that came along with it on the outside before it grows into something larger.

Once I'm done refinishing, I'll pump it full of fluid film each year.

what is wrong with your frame here?
is that just dirt you can wipe off to reveal nice 'shiny' black frame paint?

i have solved this problem (thank goodness!) ... almost $700 to do so!

 

someone in St Louis told me its possible to cut some large section off on the inner rail and then re-weld it back perhaps at the factory welds (i don't know)

 

do you have a pic of the area right where it turns from C channel to the boxed portion, the metal that is at an angle, its somewhat difficult to get at unless you're lifted
i am curious as to how thick that piece is
that is the best place for it to grow in my area

 

No, I’m having the bed taken off in a few weeks and clean and paint the top of the frame

 

Turned out to be dirt. Just some surface rust around the wheels and the end.

I think Aisan is OEM but Denso is equal in quality and reliability. I've used them in other older Toyotas.

 

So your saying to probably replace the two rubber hoses that come off the tank sending unit?

For the early setup 1997 are the hoses just attached with pressure clamps?

Getting my parts now for this job.

 

They have light tension pinch clamps. It's only about a foot and a half of hose between the two.

 

So for the 1997 is there this type of adapter that I need a special tool for or it just pulls off? Or do you disconnect the hose further down the line and not from this location
Or 1997 didn’t use this type connection till later.

Looks like its possibly a flexible nylon hose that bolts on, got it

 

The hoses are attached to the hard lines with AN style fittings. Really a quick job if you can lift a good amount of weight, fastest to sneak it out under the bed, run it dang near out of gas so it’s not too heavy. I think pulling the bed is a waste if you have a tonneau cover or shell. The biggest waste of time is getting the electrical connection loose on the pump PITA! It will definitely put pep in your trucks step and take some pep outa yours, ouch! crooked back, lol.

 

Make sure to oil the hard lines nut, lol, or it will be a pain to take it off later.
