The actual service manual states every 30k just an FYI. Not necessary but that's why......[/QUOTE]

Yep. He told me I had regular plugs, not iridium, so they needed to be changed every 30K. And he had a special for $299 for an extension on the warranty as long as I purchased it before passing 25K miles on the factory warranty. I know it was at least 5K miles extra warranty for $299, might have been 10K. But he said that would extend my warranty and in doing so, cover the spark plug change at 30K and put in iridium ones at that time. He gave me a card. I have it out in the truck in the manual papers. But I'm only at a little over 7K miles. I just wanted the iridium ones in and found a set for about 40 bucks. I had been reading up on the different iridium plugs and liked the twin tips on the Denso ones.

I think I remember reading on that pro dry air filter. Rings a bell. Do you still have it? Still happy with it? And did you try it with the size tires that came on it? I'll look it up again. Thanks.

Still have it and using it. Now running 285/70/17s and that's no help in the mpg category. To get something, you'll lose some too.

Ain't that the truth. I was thinking about a 3" lift and going with some Mickey Thompson Baja mudders, MTZs. 32 or 33 inch. Don't know if I need the lift with the 32s and don't even know if I need any of it. I only go off down the dirt roads and some mud when I take time off and go home. My Tacoma is a daily driver and it's my present for turning 50. I think my dreams are way bigger than my realities or pockets sometimes. But hey, it's fun tinkering with it now days. I just can't see myself going mudding in a $35K truck when I depend on it so much. Mostly just go down to the river but that's a 4 mile drive down mud/dirt roads that wash out a lot. I ain't running it through no mud slick on purpose, lol.

Here are photos of it. Front and Back. Seems it is an extension from the factory warranty from 30 to 45K miles. It was the Toyota 5 point care plan that was 25K miles I think. Standard warranty is 30K, right? This was a discount for a warranty extension from 30 to 45K. Says I have to purchase it before reaching 31K miles, not 25K like I thought. Let's see if I can post the photos of it now.

He was a Fed Ex contractor.

'Nuff said. Never believe anyone who fell into Fred Smith's wormhole.

LOL. Yeah, you ain't far from the truth on that one! I only worked there for about 2 years though. I think that was the turning point during my mid-life crisis that made me change career fields and become a nurse. I only saw Fred once, in passing. Never spoke to him, but man those mechanics there had the life!!! Only worked 10 hour days, 4 days a week. Made dang near $40 an hour and during that 10 hour shift, they only worked maybe 4 hours each shift. And they cried like babies if they had to do anything other than refuel and turn the jet back out again. Us contractors humped it all day! But in the end, I still hump it, just in an air/heated hospital rather than out on that flight line. No freezing rain or 110 degree days. That life is for you young dudes!

Glad I found this thread. In another one on the 2nd Gen forum I came across about a month or so ago, a member commented on the advantages of Iridium plugs in the 1GR-FE motors. I've pondered this issue a bit myself.

He indicated they were used in the TRDs with Super Charging; his swap to Iridiums in a non-TRD truck went well.

This thread is a reminder of the fun one can have pulling a Super Charger every 30K for a spark plug change and that's likely why Iridiums using a cooler heat range were used. A cooler copper heat range could have likely been used, but again, owners would be faced with 30K plug changes on a Super Charger equipped engine. If dealers are getting $300.00 for a plug change on non-S/C motors, just imagine what they charge for an S/C plug change. Trying to sell that service every 30K to owners would have driven up the cost-of-ownership, not to mention countless 30K plugs changes that may have ended up being ignored.

My 2015 PreRunner V6 is a ways off from 30K, but when the time comes, I think I'll go ahead and stick with copper as it gives me an excuse to tinker with my truck - something I enjoy doing.

I will keep the Iridium option in the back of my mind in case I decide otherwise.

I just made another post on an update about the mileage I get with these Denso Iridium Twin Tip plugs last night. I don't know how to add the link, but it shouldn't be too hard to find. I got a 2+ MPG increase on highway mileage. I don't have the supercharger, just swapped out my stock plugs to the iridium as mine did not come with them.

I've gotten 20 to 21 freeway Mpg for years with stock plugs. I put platinum's in my wife's Subaru instead of the iridiums called for in the manual, and see no difference in mileage or performance. The iridiums just last longer.

That's great mileage. I have the '15 4x4 off road and have always gotten 16 mpg. I put in those twin tips from Denso and now getting 18 mpg. I originally did it for the longevity but noticed a huge difference in mileage. Was just a plus for me.
