As I was pulling into my little townhouse driveway, one of the wooden gates that encloses it caught a big gust of wind and slammed into my rear driver's side door. Here's the damage:

I'm not too concerned about the markings from the door handle down. Most of that is wood from the fence.
I have Toyota's OEM touchup paint for the scratches.
As for the dents beneath the scratches, I was considering pushing/rolling the dent out from the inside after removing the door panel.

Does anyone have a suggestions on how to go about this?
Or know of any good dent removal kits that would be safe on this?
I'm hesitant to pull the dent from the outside because of the paint damage.

This might be a good candidate for a PDR pro repair person. Those guys can work miracles and it will look way better than a DIY job.

Unless you have experience, I would not attempt to bang this out,,, not on a relatively new vehicle.

Townhouse association should have had better controls on that door.

Take it to a PDR shop…….the lights and equipment would be expensive. And if you don’t know what you’re doing, it would be a waste of time

This all depends on what your looking for . To fix this right it needs to be fixed properly and re- painted
Otherwise it will never look really good . Depending on your deductible, I would say I came out of wherever and it was like that. Insurance should cover it . And because you weren’t involved in an accident , your insurance won’t go up. Or you can just go and pay out of pocket . But this needs a body shop 100 percent especially since it’s a practically brand new truck

Turn it in on your insurance, should be a comprehensive claim. Probably a new door skin and re-paint.

Thank you all for your replies. Submitting to insurance sounds like a great idea! Thanks for that suggestion.

As a followup question; has anyone (especially those who off-road) applied a form of protection, such as bedliner or some sort of trim, in a creative way to the exterior paint? I don't baby this truck and don't care if it looks pristine, but these types of damages are unacceptable and if I can do something to protect the truck for when they do happen, that would be ideal.

It could cost thousands to get your truck professionally bed-lined on the exterior.Or you could do this yourself with this https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=http://www.extremecoatingsinc.com

BUT I wouldnt bother because in a couple years it will become undone were the damage was because the bodyshop will use bondo to cover the dents and scratches, something similar to this

I would go with Paintless Dent removal. They can get those dents to come out like they were never there.
