If I use this sticker am I liable for punching the cart pusher? That's the real question

Come to think of it, I think you did the right thing. A few dollars for the dent/scrape is nothing compared to what could have been if emotions overflow. Great job for self restraint .

That sucks about the dents OP. It's one thing if you rough-up your truck on the trails - that's character, it's another when an idiot in a parking lot does it. I know several posters have suggested more assertive responses to the perpetrator.

I just wanted to share a personal, cautionary tale. I live in an area with almost no crime. I can leave my garage door open over night with the biggest worry being if a skunk or opossum will move in, not that something will get stolen. We rarely ever lock the house when leaving except for longer trips. It's the type of neighborhood where we have keys to half-a-dozen neighbors' houses and they have keys to ours to bring in mail, newspaper, feed the cat, etc. when out of town. We're the type of town where a call to the police about barking dogs makes the local paper's "crime beat" section.

We live near a small city park. While there is a designated entrance with signage, not more than 50 yards away, there are non-local people who cut through / trespass on our lawn. I used to confront the trespassers and ask them to exit my property. Over the last few years, those encounters have grown much more uncivil and have, on more than one occasion, involved a firearm. The lack of civility and personal responsibility, even in our little town that can feel like living in the 1950's, has increased to the point that I rethink confronting people who are either too lazy to walk the additional 50 yards, too stupid to read clear signage, or some combination of both, and cut through our yard to get to the park. And, yes, before the keyboard warriors jump-in, I've called the police, made reports to the city management, etc., but by the time law enforcement arrives, the trespassers are long gone.

What I'm trying to say is that when confronting anyone to make them take personal responsibility for their actions, whether it is trespassing on property (my case) or shoving a cart into your vehicle, you have to assume that every single one of them is armed and that at least a significant portion are stupid enough to attempt to use said weapon. Sometimes it's better to deal with the results of people's stupidity than what can happen if you confront them on their stupidity. There are times that restraint can be the better part of valor.

You too? I thought I was in a camp of 1.
She gets upset when I start pulling over to help someone broke down on the road. It’s a “you never know with people these days” thing. It stresses her out so I keep on driving. I’d rather have a happy stress-free wife and another Good Samaritan help out.

Helping someone on the road I can see that, but what's the danger in picking up rubbish or returning a cart to the corral? Anyhow I do the same stuff especially when I'm in a good mood

I honestly think Aldi solved the cart problem with their .25 cart deposit. If you want your quarter back you have to park the cart.

Sucks to have to dish out more money, but don't regret walking away. Not worth getting hurt over a dent. Way too many damn crazy people out there nowadays just looking for an excuse to do something stupid. Same with road rage, just not worth it.

She worries about disease heck, I grew up on a farm pitch forking manure, collecting roadside bottles for return $ and even the state D.O.T. picked us up from High School to pick trash along highways and I don't recall any gloves being used.

No one can second guess your sound judgement. Better to come back another day and seek revenge on that shopping cart. There’s nothing like getting a good running start, letting it rip, and sending that cart into its brother’s a-hole in the cart return coral.

X2. It just sucks though, to have to tolerate other's bad behavior or damage to one's property because there is such a propensity for these s**t heads to go ballistic. We're just cutting our losses, and unfortunately, those losses just seem to increase as people become more disrespectful of other's property. Modern life.

    None.
A $20 tip to the grocery dweeb got me parking lot video. I also have pics of him in his F150 w/plate.

PoPo took a report. Of course he denied everything, but I now have his insurance info - SF; same as mine.

Revenge? A buddy offered to pretend to be SF, and tell him that his policy is cancelled effective immediately for lying to the PoPo.

Accountability, finally (I love it). No revenge, it makes you look bad. Best thing you can do is help the cops by finding more evidence that proves he did it.

I had my credit card stolen last fall. I made calls to all the places they used it. Built a timeline of events on a map with distances, contact info and how much they spent (morons paid their water bill with my credit card so we got name and address). Put all that evidence together and sent it to the cops.
Arrested and confessed immediately. My buddies told me to let it go but my work paid off and it wasn’t hard to do. Mostly I just wanted to hold them accountable for what they did. Didn’t cost me a thing.

I say keep hunting for info. Hold him accountable. That mouth breathing f****** loser will likely think twice next time before doing shit like that now that the cops are looking at him.

It is amazing what people try to pull. I am an insurance broker and a client of mine called me the other day to report a claim. She watched some dude back into her parked car. She approached him to speak to him. He slowly drove away while screaming at her and calling her names. Damage was very minor and she wasn't even worried about doing anything about it. She remained calm, took down his license plate and reported it to the police and me. Just because he wanted to act like an animal.
