I hit some sort of pillar with my tailgate while it was down. Wondering if it is worth fixing or just getting a new one.

For the amount of work you would have to do to fix it isn't worth the effort. Get a new or used one.

If you can massage it back into shape a little bit, my tailgate cap might cover it up.

Thanks for the reply. I'll see what I can do but if nothing I guess I'll look for a used one.

You can get a new tailgate painted for $379 off of EBay. I messed my tailgate up with 1500 miles on it. Ordered my new one & it looks better than the factory one. It's just the shell. You have to use everything off of your old one. There's a YouTube video showing everything even removing the rear camera. Hope this helps

That's actually a pretty good price.

I let my son-in-law and daughter borrow my truck and utility trailer to move some stuff a couple of years ago. He tried to load long stuff in the truck and left the gate down with the trailer. Backing up he did almost the same thing to mine. I spent 2-3 weeks looking as well as having some body shops looking for a good white tailgate. I was able to find 2-3 in other colors for $250-$300. But after paying to get them painted white it wasn't worth it to me. That has been 2 years and I've learned to live with it. If I ever run across one for under $300 that doesn't need to be painted I'll buy it. I could care less if the badges match my truck.

FWIW, one thing I discovered is that used Tacoma parts are hard to find. Insurance companies just don't total them. I saw some in scrap yards in pretty sad shape that they were rebuilding rather than totaling.

I had some one helping me and he managed to put a dent in the tail gate with the tong of a trailer The body shop did a great job but because the dent was deep enough he had to paint the entire tail gate and it was just about $200.

The one on eBay seems like a good deal! After the couple days of having the dent I really don't mind it. I guess when it starts to bug me I can just pull the trigger and get it.
