Not sure of official job title like what you'd see on USA jobs postings. She's a Customs and Border Protection Officer is the title. I think there's a difference between the guys patrolling the border and the ones working at like airports and ports of entry.

Doesn't matter and I'm not going to post my agency on the forums.

Point being that many agencies, all affiliated in some way, take forever to hire...

Like I said, took me 1.5 years to get in back in 2002.

Yep it takes a while to get the BI's done. If yours is like ones I've dealt with, OPM does the BI's.

We are speaking the same language. :) Took 1.5 years for a call - then the BI started. Do you do PSIs?

Not sure what that is so I guess not LOL. I do some computer stuff for one of the Uncle Sam branches. Wife stamps passports at the airport :) At least she's considered essential, so if/when the govvies shut down next week she can be my sugar mama and I can have an unpaid vacation.

When I first started as a contractor it took about a month to get the waiver so I could start working. It took another year and a half for the whole enchilada. And that was just secret level

A PSI is a BI for the whole enchalada... :) I am in the essential category as well - otherwise, I could use the much needed vacation - pay or not - after coming back from my 2nd tour in Iraq only 4 weeks ago.

I agree start looking at USAJOBs and applying as soon as possible.

Don't forget you automatically get bonus preference points when scoring the applicants due to your prior military service. This is true of most, if not all federal jobs.

He's actually out in the field. So out on patrols, vehicle stops, checking reports of illegals crossing in. That sort of stuff. Either in vehicles or sometimes they just kinda go out there in the dessert and sit in and wait lol.

And as the others said definitely get cracking with applications. I know he applied and it was a year before he was informed that he would have a position(pending training all all that sort of stuff, not sure how it all worked out exactly). Good luck!

Vermont has ICE & lots of DHS jobs. Start your networking now as been suggested. Also been on both sides of interviews for b.i. Had a friend who went border patrol who put me down as a reference & the questions are extremely specific/pinpoint. Make sure you let the people know who you put down is my advice. Good luck in your search. OPM has lots of info, Fed news online, USAJOBS, will send email updates in your search criteria.
