I have a 2012 Tacoma that was rear ended. The only thing that had to be replaced was my Pelfreybilt bumper. Now I have a 2012 Tacoma with 1 Carfax accident report on it now. How much did this accident report depreciate my vehicle?
The insurance company started with $700 then $1000 now $1350.
Its my opinion that I will loose a lot more than that ($2000-$3000) but how do I go about proving it?

Any help or pointing in the right direction would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

There's no depreciation in value if you don't sell it!

:facepalm:I don't plan on selling it but I don't like taking a hickey on the value of my truck if someone else was responsible for diminishing it. I know some places wont even take a car/truck in on trade with any accident reports no matter how small. What is this worth? I don't know..... but the insurance guy seems to think I'm crazy asking for 3K. I know if I was going to buy my truck and found an accident report on it I would use that as leverage to get a lower price no matter how small or minor the accident

Does it say anything about the accident details on the carfax?

Are you trying to get money for depreciation from the insurance company? Therefore wanting the higher value?

In my opinion if you can show proof of the repairs and no damage to the frame, it pry will not hurt your resale value too much. I think it would be pretty hard to show the depreciation value of just a replaced bumper. If you have the carfax doesn't it have a value stating the depreciation due to the accident? Maybe try kbb or nada?

My truck had a 6k front end accident(my fault). But I pretty much got fair market value for my truck.

It does not have any details about the accident.
Yes I'm trying to get money from the insurance company from the lady that rear-ended me. I just want $ to cover the depreciated value of the truck now that it has an accident report on it.

When you sold your truck and got fair market value did it have an accident report on it? Did you sell it to private individual?

I sold it private party but didn't have a carfax but was open to the new owner.
I know that doesn't help you much

I actually sold it for more than the kbb resale value(I guess most tacomas do). Which was fair market for similar trucks in my area.

Maybe try to get an appraisal from a dealer? That would be trade in value and maybe you could compare it to a non accident truck with the same specs?

Carfax is not as widely respected in the auto industry as you would think. All they report is 'rear end accident' and such. They dont give specifics and not all shops/insurance even report to carfax. Id say dont even worry about it until you go to sell the car. If a dealership tries to hold it against you, tell them to pound salt, as THEY dont even know if it was a $100 or $10000 repair.

Yeah, the lady that hit me totaled out her car but it only put a little crack in my steel bumper. They replaced the bumper. Guess ill settle for the $1350 and get some new rubber and routine maintenance done. Still feels like I'm getting screwed on this. Someone hits me and causes my truck to not be worth as much as before and I know if I ever have to sell ill get raked over the coals for more than the $1350 they are paying me. Oh well guess I should be happy I'm getting anything at all.
