I am so sorry to hear about your situation. You have had some pretty bad turns, no doubt.

Can you go back to being a cop? Maybe you left for family safety reasons or because the political environment is not great for police right now, but it might help you pay the bills and get into a house and truck sooner...

DPS and Phoenix are hiring. Salt River PD is hiring.

AZ POST is pretty chill to deal with coming from out of state.

Sorry for your loss but shit happens in life. It was just a vehicle, you are ok, not injured , could have been a lot worst. What’s important is how you deal with all your ill fortune, what you do to get back on tract. Get yourself back into law enforcement. There are thousands of LEO openings across the country. You can pick your location and pick your department. You are actually a lot better off than a lot of people. This may be an opportunity to make a new plan and get your shit together. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I don’t mean to be harsh but sounds like your prior plan wasn’t well thought out, there were many things that could have and did go wrong and you had no contingency plans. Make a new and better plan, learn by your mistakes.

Keep moving forward. Make your own luck and work hard, things will happen for you.

law enforcement shortage all around. Could be a great gig near you, reach out and see what happens. Lots of ability and variety at different departments if you want it. Best.

It can be a lot feeling responsible for your family and being a good role model. I try and take the positive Ted Lasso approach, but divulge my fears and misgivings to 4 close friends and my partner ( if the issue isn't about her). I have started talking to friends on the phone or in person, and just talking makes a world of difference. I don't like to think of negative things to make light of my situation, but i am eternally grateful that i am not an 18 yo German soldier attacking Russia in operation Barbarossa as winter sets in, or stuck in a trench on the western front where I would have very little chance of surviving and my options are severely restricted. Conscious breath, walking, and cardio can help, as can spending time with your kids (sometimes;).
People do care about you and are interested in your well being.

Hey everyone, thanks for the replies and good advice. It has definitely helped. I'm kinda in those limbo points, walked away from law enforcement on great terms and after the accident and all the drama I caved and picked up a couple joints and smoked my feelings away for a couple days. Unfortunately that probaly did it for me for law enforcement, for some reason any sort of smokey smoke is an instant disqualifier. Granted it's been a few months since that time, i do now teach kids how to drive which is great and all but just to doesn't touch police work. Also doesn't pay the greatest but it's weird and I guess expected but in arizona it's ridiculous how many places I've applied to semi related to law enforcement like security manager or something that pays really good, but no such luck got a decent resume but no bites. As of right now the game plan is to suck everything up, use income tax season to kill that bad credit, save up alittle bit and by next income tax season hopefully I'll have my Sr5 back but we shall see. I do appreciate everyone with looking out, it's been rough for sure and just praying for that light at the end of the tunnel and that opportunity to come knocking so I can feel alittle proud of myself again.

Just be honest in your interview and piss clean -- I admitted to smoking weed in the past and it wasn't an issue.

When you have problems, stay away from drugs and alcohol. I can’t think of any situation that those things help long term.

I served on a police merit board for 20 years. During the first 10 years, admitting to smoking weed was generally a show stopper. But, over the last 10 years, it became a non issue (actually, a positive reflection of the candidates character, for telling the truth, which would be validated by the mandated polygraph before a job offer). As stated earlier - piss clean and tell the absolute truth.

This^^^^^^^. Keep in mind pot in Arizona is legal, so you did not break any laws. Now a days I do not know how various agencies handle the pot use issue if legal in their state. It would seem to me if it is legal in your state it would be like asking if you drink beer. Even 40 years ago we allowed a person to join if it was a once or twice thing, an isolated incident and confirmed by polygraph.
One thing you shouldn’t do is post your personal problems on the internet. If it were me I’d delete this thread and delete all other compromising posts/threads from any other sites you’ve been on.

Pot legality would depend on the department, just like it varies by company. I work for a company that still has a zero tolerance policy even though some of our people live in states that have legalized. This is because it is still illegal at a federal level, so even if it's not enforced it isn't technically legal in any state.

Life can seem really overwhelming when bad things pile up.
    My best advice to you.
Make a list of goals and problems you'd like to solve. Prioritize the list from most difficult to easiest.
Start by solving the easiest and work your way up the list.
You'll be amazed at how good you start to feel as you cross those problems off your list.

a long time ago, i bought a brand new dodge ram, i ended up paying about $55k after payments and interest. i only had it paid off for a few months and it was still in excellent shape, low miles... IT WAS STOLEN AND MY INSTURANCE ONLY GAVE ME $9K.

yep, I spent $55k on the truck, plus $18k in insurance payments for them to give me a measley fucking $9k and increase my rate.

maybe this will make you feel better, I'm divorced twice, lost countless belongings, a few houses, had a lot of friends die (a few in front of me) and I'm still doing ok.

I've learned a lot through all this shit. I'm finally making decent money again, but i definitely know how to live broke...

don't let shit get you down.

Yeah my truck was valued at like 23,000 repairs costed 19,000 loan was 17000 roughly left so I had about 5 k down a new vehicle, first mistake was going into ford looking at a tacoma, didn't qualify and then got suckered into a nissan sentra for 24,000.......600 payments vs the 400 I was paying on my truck....wrong time to get a vehicle haha. Next time I shouldn't of been smart and went to toyota.....lesson learned.

Like everyone said, piss clean and be honest. My son just got hired on as a sheriff's deputy. He got automatically disqualified from state patrol based on the fact that he smoked in the past as a teenager. The interviewer told him other agencies are more lenient. He had a handful of interviews after the state patrol and finally one stuck. He starts the academy in January. If you want it, get it. Also, get gap insurance. You got this.
