I would get the intake if I won the lottery. But I’d also save enough for the penis reduction surgery my lady has been begging me to get... priorities you know?

So far it is not available as a separate part. If it was. I’d have that dingus on my truck tomorrow.

I wish it was more bicep-flexy looking than it is. Like the truck is ready to fist bump.

I wish it was testosterone-infused. I got that pheromone air freshener. It would pair nicely.

I got trucknutz, but only gained maybe 3-4 extra points in my ‘rone count.

BTW thank you @stun gun for introducing me to the abbreviation “rone”. It’s a ubiquitous term amongst my peers now.

Actually if you think that there is no functionality behind making the hood scoop functional I would have to disagree...

While that area is a low pressure area that I will not argue whatsoever, by opening it up you would allow heat expulsion in an already choked up engine bay which has very little exits for heat in OE form. In doing so, not only would your overall coolant temperatures drop, but your AC system would struggle much less in dissipating off heat during the summer, making your overall interior temperatures at idle considerably cooler.

Of course this would be a thing which should not be done alone, as pulling the weatherstrip in the rear of the hood allows further benefit, but I digress...

So it's not a functional mod per se in the effect which people want out of it, but there is still a benefit to be had in opening it up.

Hood scoop faces the wrong way. Opening up will prevent proper air flow through radiator due to pressurizing the space behind the rad when the truck is at speed.

All you get is less cooling and a super dirty engine bay. Turn the scoop around to create a suction and we can talk.

How are we going to pressurize the radiator when the area which would be opened is a low pressure area? Literally almost no air goes through it even if opened while you are driving unless you are sitting at a standstill.

I think you are missing the point of my last post assuming it was done in OE config we would be going for venting not suction.

The whole idea behind opening up the hood scoop would be for better heat dissipation at idle. Heat doesn't care which way an opening is pointing.

When forward momentum is ramming air into the scoop, you will have less air flowing through radiator due to increased pressure behind the rad. I agree, there is no difference at idle.

Also......never heard of their Gen engine overheating issues. Some guys are baking their transmissions, but so far the gigantic 3G radiator has been more than adequate to cool the engine.

Anyways.....cut open the scoop and post pics. I’ll send you a can of engine cleaner as a reward.

My post was not meant to address overheating issues. If someone is overheating then they should address their concern as needed, but opening up the engine bay USUALLY is not the cause of their concern nor will it address potential overheating concerns they may have unless they are doing some super severe duty stuff.

Opening up the scoop does not create a high pressure area and it never will, the high pressure areas exist just at the base of the windshield and at the entry points of the radiator that is why you used to see the muscle cars of yesteryear with cowl induction and shaker hoods. That is also why vehicles equipped with e fans are programmed to shut off at speeds above 50 mph (I might be wrong about that number) there is too much air going through the radiator portion and opening up a scoop will never decrease the amount of air flowing through a radiator, especially enough for it to be a make or break point for overheating due to a lack of airflow which does not exist.

Highschool physics man. Why is it called a scoop? It ain’t just a hole. It is a forward facing scoop.

Have you never heard of Ram Air?

    Goddam!!

I don't know what high school physics you took but you must had gotten an F in that class. :boink: Dude I'm kidding. Lol, but I will say you are not right in this arena.

I don't know who assigned it that label "hood scoop" but it is wrong. It was most likely assigned that label for go fast appeal to the then ricer crowd and it sorta just stuck throughout the generations. Here is what REAL ram air looks like. Notice their locations are all either OTR or facing towards the cowl. Yes these intakes make a DRAMATIC difference in performance and without them the cars they are equipped on would be notably slower.

    OTR intake:
    showimage.jpeg.jpg
    OTR intake:
    250-230-Installed.jpg
    Cowl induction:
    1301phr-01-o-cowl-induction-cold-air-system-dart-based-engine.jpg

My GTO had hood scoops toward the front right above the engine bay close to the drive accessories and you best believe that even opened they made no difference in performance or created a lack of cooling effectiveness with the scoop plugs opened up but with those same plugs removed those things would breathe out the hot air of a fire breathing dragon at idle which was great for dissipating heat. Dusty conditions or not it made no difference if they were open or not. It made the engine bay no more dusty than if they were plugged up.

All hood scoops on vehicles if made functional from OE should be labeled "heat dissipators" not hood scoops.

We are sort of deviating from the thread topic, so apologies for that OP. I just want to make sure you understand what I am getting at at this point. :)

Here, just to prove my point check out this video. :42 seconds in is the perfect profile of the low/ high pressure area in this test. You will notice all of the air flow goes around the hood and the high pressure ends up toward the cowl area..

    https://youtu.be/ex7vFTE_wGw

At idle however, where external airflow is no factor, "hood scoops" serve as perfect heat extractors. ;)

My high school musta been Ivy League or some shit. Thinking about it now, they did select the kids with the largest heads.

Air flows in scoop, rather than through rad, increasing engine bay pressure, and reducing air flow through radiator, due to higher pressure behind rad.

Riddle me this... why does Toyota put desert air intakes on trucks sold in Florida and not in the legit Jordanian desert? The world will never know...
