I'm currently running OME 885's and top plate spacers up front with Dakars out back. I was looking at Fox 2.5 ext rr's up front. What was your reasoning on choosing Fox over King? And also out back I seen you went with 5125's, I was just gonna get the 2.0 rr rears. Any reason on your decision there also. Just looking for input and options. Great looking ride btw

 

Honestly, at the time I bought them used and they needed some TLC. Essentially it came down to that’s what I got a good deal on. From my understanding, it’s really a color preference between the two options. They are both great products. I have heard that the piston designs are different but I couldn’t tell you which is more beneficial per application. Looking back, I’m glad I got the Fox because they are a local company to me and the guys in the service department are great resources when needed.

As for the rear, the 5125s were a quick fix for when I installed my Dakar’s. I was in a time pinch and wanted to get the job done and save the expense. They offered more travel for minimal cost. My next big project is going to be a shock relocation with a 2.0 or 2.5. I have rebound issues in higher speed stuff and the 5125s don’t have enough valving.

Thanks for the input, I'm more on the fox side for pretty much a color preference myself, I've also been reading they hold up to elements as far a finish goes better than King's will. Me living in the Rust belt is a big factor for me also.

So I finished up the install of the new IEDS bearing and U-joints last night. Assembly went together well and I used the mounting design @MonkeyProof came up with in an attempt to create the proper drive line angles.

It was an attempt though, I now have a vibration at 15-20 mph and 35 +\- a few mph that fades away and a slight hum at anything over. The way I understand it, I need to add spacing for the carrier bearing to get better angles.

I measured the driveline the best I could using the technique @TscotR214 wrote up in his thread and found my angle to be 1.9 degrees at the flange for the transfer case and 8.3 degrees at the differential. So a difference of 6.4 degrees. I believe these are supposed to be < 3 degrees but wanted to confirm?

When I started this project, I had 2.2 degrees at the transfer case flange and 7.7 degrees at the diff. I found this interesting due to starting the spacer at 1 3/8” as @MonkeyProof did expecting this to be a decent starting point. I added a 1/8” washer after in an attempt to fix the vibration but ran out of threads for the bolt.

 

Did you install the drive shaft exactly how you removed it? Remember how we marked the flange to the rear diff. If you clocked it 180* on reinstall, then maybe your out of phase and causing the vibrations

 

Yeah, I marked the shaft so it should be balanced. There is always margin for human error so I can’t excude the possibility though. The drive shaft is balanced independently from the flange. As long as I didn’t fuck up the reassembly when doing the u-joints, it should be fine.

It's been awhile since I've thrown anything up and @YumaTRD was kind enough to post the video of me accomplishing "The Squeeze" of our most recent trip to Pinyon trail. I've been wanting to complete this trail for almost two years since my buddy and I first attempted to complete it and failed due to the size of his vehicle. The trail didn't disappoint and we had minimal damage. (Other than my door)
