Yeah, I’m very happy with the Archive hangers but I had a hard time swollowing the price of their relocation kit. Yet another reason I went with tube and making my own. Interesting. I haven’t messed with one on a truck but I have an idea of what you’re talking about. Do you know what angle you went with to optimize your travel? What is your rear setup other than the BAMF and 2.5s? Have new hangers and leafs? I’m assuming you had to modify the lower mounts due to running he 2.5s instead of 2.0s. Sounds like you’ve got the hookup!

I’d love to make it to a tuning day and have them play with the setup. The guys at Accutune have always been very helpful when I call with questions and they helped my valve my front shocks when I did the rebuild. They used a calculation from my weight and style of driving and it’s not bad. I don’t have a ton to compare it to though so I’m sure it could be better if I went out for a tuning.

Thanks for checking out the thread and i hope you find at least some of the info useful!

It's pretty fun stuff. Plus it's cheap to do. Shims and a bit of oil.

We’ll have to plan a day when it cools off to go play with them. I have all of the shims and oil we’d need ready to go. Just don’t know where to begin.

Definitely after summer. I want to try some more aggressive shims up front on mine.

Aren’t you at a .015 stack now? That’s a #90 stack. I wouldn’t go thicker but you might try going to a 3-2 stack instead.

I have the Icon leafs and an archive Ubolt flip kit as well as the towers and 2.5s. Most of the lower mount modification was to be able to try to really get all 12" from the shocks, aka rotating them down without chewing up the lower eye. Still only gets I think maybe 11-11.5". We didn't measure any angle, just cycled with the main leaf until we got to the compromise between Full travel and too much mount re-fabrication, where any more work was going to be extensive and net minimal travel gains. We shaved some corners and edges off the bamf mounts to work with the 2.5s. Mounted without modification, you'd probably only use like 10" of the shock.

Yup. I'm a full stack of 15s right now. Exactly. I'm thinking of doubling up on some 15s on the top 2 large shims. I just need a bit more.
Anymore I might need to break down and get some bypasses added.

I really need some hydro bumps up front, lol.

That would bring you up A bit but it really depends on how much more you need. There is a lot of different options. Assuming your spring rate is where you want it, it would be easy to get it right.

Yeah, that would help you out a lot! I might know a guy if you’re not brand loyal. :spy::cheers:

Yeah, its common to move the lower shock mount to get your desire shaft position. You have to remember though that shock length and actual travel are different. With my Dakar’s, Hammer Hangers, and no bumps (metal to metal) I’m only cycling 12.8” of travel. My u bolts could be cut down to get more but it won’t benefit me. The issue with that number is that it puts my leaf in too much negative arch. I’ll realistically only going to get about 10.5” of cycling when it’s all said and done, and that’s with the extra droop from the Hammer Hangers.

So yeah, I’ll probably only use about 10” of shaft length and have enough buffer on the top/bottom for hard hits and inertia.

The trimming was twofold now that I remember, it was to clear the shock body as well, 2.5s are big haha. While we were up in big bear i noticed i'm getting to about 1/2" of shaft left, but we weren't flexing super hard or bottoming out. I really should have found a spot and just tried to max it out to see how it all looks. I was a bit scared to though with the wheel spacers now, thinking id be into the fender flares more than I was before, but it's actually are sitting pretty good at more or less full bump/flex. I'm not getting full extension as it sits now, so we left room there if I change hangers/shackles. Without a lot of work/SUA, i'm not going to get any more uptravel.

edit: Ya, forgot about the negative arch. These springs go negative quick. I figured i'd just go with it and see how long they last, and if it's not long at all, guess I'll be going SUA afterall. I was pretty bummed when we were mocking it up and seeing that.

The 2.5s are significantly bigger than the 2.0s. I mean yeah, by the numbers it’s a 1/2” but you don’t realize how much larger that is until you hold them. You’re referring to shaft remaining on bump yeah?

You shouldn’t use your full shock travel with your setup. You have to do a fair amount of work to need more than 12” shock and if you do you’ll effect your bump travel abilities due to the shock body length. You’d likely have to cut into the bed to do it though. The Archive kits allows a 14” but it’s a tight fit when done.

I’ll be content with my arch when the bumps are on. I’m willing to loose a little bump travel to not kill the leafs. I’m not moving through the desert all of the time so it won’t be too bad.

What size wheel spacers are you running?

Will do for sure! I’m working on my truck now and it came to mind. Didn’t even think of looking at your build. Haha.

Progress is being made. Cycled last night and started to duplicate the tube for the passenger side.

You can get your pre-order in the que by sending me a PayPal of most all your money. In return, I’ll get you some shock hoops, completely welded and a slight surface rust finish, and a leprechaun that will grant you 3 wishes. Depending on how much money you have though... :stirthepot:

Pm me for my PayPal email!!

In all seriousness I do not have the intention of making these continually. I do this for a hobby and I like to test my skills, knowledge, etc. Plus, I’m cheap. With that said, if this set comes out the way I want it to, I may have enough material to make a few extra sets that I would be willing to sell off to recoup some materials/beer costs. I’d also be very interested in seeing a variety of shock types used to see if these would work with other shocks. Just to keep it interesting.
