I want to add a storage box to the front of our TT. I have a few ideas but I thought it would be “fun” to get more ideas and feedback from some TW members, there are some people here with more experience than I will ever have.

I'm not planning on putting a bunch of stuff in the box. It will add to the tongue weight however most of the stuff I would put in a new box is currently carried in my truck bed so the net additional weight would be the box and mounting hardware. The battery will go inside the new box. I'm trying to figure out the box shape and what to do with propane.

From my reading propane tank in the box with the battery is controversial and I can see the danger. Is this a never-do or proceed with caution and seal and vent properly?

    Current factory setup:
    Battery
    Propane tank
    No additional storage

    New setup:
    Battery
    Propane Tank
Additional storage for some tools, leveling blocks, etc.

    Ideas:
    1. “angled” tongue box, offset to one side, with propane cylinder mounted outside with a tank mount.
      1. Harbor Freight and Tractor supply boxes are the most economical
      2. Will this look like garbage?
    2. Rectangular box, offset to one side, with propane cylinder mounted outside with a tank mount.

    3. Rectangular box with propane cylinder inside. Partition the box with a sealed plywood panel and put vent holes in the propane side.

    TT Width: 80”

Frame: 9.5” angled to 29” (approximately)

Frame Depth for the box: 22” ( dependent on the size of the box)

Other: “teardrop” shaped so the box has to be pushed forward (dependent on the size of the box)

Finally, any advice on how to mount a new box? I will need spacer blocks to clear the brackets. I could weld square tube stock across the frame or add them to the box.
