No. The purpose of the stupid back up camera is to be an aid. It's not the end all be all. The truck has mirrors. Use 'em.

If only they had some material that was like glass, but super shiny and reflective. And then you had pieces of that on the either side of the truck, say two. And maybe even one inside the cab dead center..

Imo if you cant reverse using your mirrors, you shouldn't drive. Its just a simple skill that most people have totally forgotten. Like reading an analog clock :bananadead:

Anyway, to respond directly to your point, no. Theres no location on the rear of a truck that is immune to snow / mud / dust buildup.

My first Honda only had driver side mirror and rearview mirror... passenger side was a option.

I either crashed into everything behind me or did a 11 point turn to turn around of course.

This is the first mode of transportation I've owned with a back up camera. I always forget it's there.

Now I would love a forward camera, 3 months and I still can't judge how close I'm parking to something. Few times I've had to get back in and pull the damn thing up a couple feet.

Haha yup. Embarrassing as shit. Don't want to bump and I still can't judge with the hood though.

    It really is.

Hell I've thought about putting a piece of PVC pipe on a board, and practicing in my driveway to see how close I can get before hitting it.

My neighbors already think I'm nuts...don't need to give them more reasons.

My first Pontiac (easy on the upcoming domestic bashing, it was GTO #104) only had a DS mirror too. No PS option.

I did manage to retro fit a remote control (manual, natch) replacement on the DS I snagged off a Grand Prix.

It also had a power antenna and a rear deck 6x9 speaker with a reverb.

My '86 Toy pickup only had the DS. Also had American Racing rims, matching canopy, and a Grant steering wheel when I bought it. Fuck I miss that truck

I’m in Chicago this winter so i’ve pretty much given my camera a finger wipe every other time I get out of the truck. Mine did freeze over during the storm but the ice easily melted after a few seconds with the palm of my bare hand on the lens.
I use RainX on my windows, mirrors and head lights occasionally so i’ve tried using it on the lens but I didn’t notice much of a difference.
My wife’s Lexus sedan has the same problem so aside from putting a mini wiper blade on it, I doubt there’s much Toyota could do.

I feel like this an appropriate meme for at least 50% of third gen forum threads.
