I had Gleason Torsen diffs front/rear on my last truck, and I would really like to get a set on my Tacoma.

First I've seen two different axle sizes, the 8" and 8.4", for my 2013 tacoma, which size do I have?

Second, whats a good source to buy the diffs at?

Also, I've seen some threads on installation, anyone done the install and have any tips/notes about it? Any good write ups on the install?

They are both the same gears. The difference is the 8" is the e-locker and the 8.4 is the non e-locker. Also 8" is in the front also not sure if it'll be a different part or not.

When you say source diffs what are you needing/meaning?

East coast gear supply. They can send them with the gears setup already for you. If you just buy the trutrac you will need to take it to a competent installer. There is a lot that goes into setting up gears. Just got a trutrac put in mine yesterday, i highly recommend it

Well I only have trd sport, so no e-locker. So I have 8.4" rear.

Source as in good website/store to buy from.

East Coast Gear Supply here in NC. They are probably the best. I've been doing business with them since they opened their doors. Not sure if they'll have that brand but they deal with Eaton which has a torsion style diff.

I meant the brand he mentioned in his old truck. Detroit is a subsidiary of Eaton. Eaton is a powerhouse company in both the O.E. and aftermarket automotive field as well as other fields.

But it's still just a warmed over limited slip the E-locker is much better for "off-road" conditions when the wheels begin to spin.

Probably the best on road mannered and strongest LS style diff on the market.

The on road manners are very impressive. Mine hasnt chirped the tires at all, and ive been gassing it through the corners. my truck is a pavement pounder/daily driver, and im so glad i went with this. On or offroad, its a great option

Its definitely strong. been romping on it hard and it just spins the hell out of both of the rear tires now. Also put 4.10s in and the supercharger is loving those. Picks up so quick now, can spin the tires in 2nd gear from 2500rpms all the way to redline. Going to take some getting used to, but once it hooks, its like a rocket

Are you planning on putting one in the front?

I would not do a LS in the front that would be ill advised. Call and talk to the guys at ECGS about it too though but I wouldn't do it.

Had a TruTrac in my ‘94. (Actually I still have the diff kickin’ around somewhere.) It was awesome, great upgrade for a daily, light off road truck. I wanted another for the front back then, but I’d love a selectable locker in the rear and maybe try a TruTrac up front. I bet that would be sweet.

Not sure how front TT handles snow/slick roads though.

Edit- why no TT up front? Understeer in slick conditions? (That was always my worry)

Yeah, I know it's not the Real McCoy but I'm goin thru Contruction Sites, Lotsa Snow 'n Ice, Ice Road stuff so for what I need its cost effective. Had one years ago in a '70s Nova & it Rocked. Far cry from an open diff. Itchin' to get it installed but might have to wait til after Christmas.
