I need the grill actually. I need to get the right hole locations on the grill to bolt the emblem into. I have an early first generation grill from someone that let me borrow it but I haven't finished it. The best scenario would be to make one that fits both early and late grill for the first gen tacoma.

I'd like to get one asap and make them available this year, otherwise everyone will have to wait until next year. if anything fails, I will buy one on ebay.

out of curiosity (and i have no idea how machining works)

why wouldnt just the emblem work? could you not use that to make an exact replica with the clips etc?

I don't like clips because anyone could steal them or fall more easily. the one for the early first gen tacoma doesn't have any clips, it has two screws holding it in place however the oval size and those hole locations are different. I was so close to making it work once using a co-worker's grill without taking the grill out, but after a few attempts i didn't like the fit and I lost interest. if i could get one shipped, I could do it over my one week spring break and ship it back.

apparently we're discussing 2 different grills...because i consider my tacoma a st gen...but i have clips...not screws on my emblem...

Yeah, sounds like you have the later style of grill (the one I need). The first gen tacoma grill was available from 1996 to 2000 and the other from 2001 to 2004 (I may be wrong) all tough they are both first gen and I'm trying to make ONE that will fit both. Besides, if I have the grill I will know what kind of fit I have. I have made one allready like I said and it works! The problem is that i didn't like the way it fit, there was a slight gap at both ends. I wouldn't put my name on a product I make that's half way done.

I guess there are 3 different types of grills after all, that means I'm screw'd!!! :( I wonder how much difference there is, I have one I beleive it's from '99 but I'd like to take a look at the others.
