Sweet build! I'll be curious to see what you do for the current and braking issue. I may bug you for those plans in the future. I've been wanting to build something for my oldest.

Currently, I don’t have a solution. You might want to consider using the 40v chainsaw. You can probably find it cheap since they discontinued that line of tools. I didn’t have any of these issues with the 40v. I think the motor braking and ramp up were less aggressive so it was better to adopt it to the mini bike.

Did a quick cruise for some used 40v DeWalt chainsaws on the interweebs locally and no dice. Found a lot of used Ryobi saws. I've used those before and they have a hard start and aggressive brake like you mentioned about the 60v DeWalt. I'll keep looking, but I really like what you've done.

I think I’m gonna buy a few different sprockets and see if an increased gear ratio will help lower the current draw. I’ll probably get a freewheel hub to avoid the motor braking issue.

How did you integrate the throttle for the 40v setup?

I bought a cheap cable throttle off Amazon. Then I designed and 3D printed a “switch box” that holds the switch and a cam. The cam is rotated by the cable and actuates the switch. I’ll post pictures in a little bit.

I know a guy with a freewheel for your motor. Smallest is 13T though.

I forgot to update this thread. I got updated software to remove the motor braking feature. Ran pretty sweet for a few months until I hopped a curb and blew up the motor controller. Hoping to rebuild it again before spring.
