Huh, good to know. Still think the 3/8 impact will work for some of the duties a lot better.

That 4 link is a shit show right now. I still need to skin it and mount the rear shocks and hope the valving works for me this time…or pulling them off again and doing some more work.

Started like this in mid August and stopped mid September. I suck.

The only DeWalt tool I absolutely hate is the 7 1/4" 60V worm saw. Whoever designed the dust port on the thing needs to be fired. It dumps the saw dust out the left side of the blade at a downward angle. If your framing and are right handed what's the way EVERYONE cuts 2X? You put it on your left foot and make the cut. With the dust port on the left where does that put all that saw dust? In your shoe. Yep. It's retarded.

I recently picked up a cordless Skillsaw 7 1/4" and 10 1/4" because I was so tired of having saw dust filled socks. Guess where Skill ports the saw dust? Out the handle. Which faces right and slightly up. That's bloody brilliant. No more dirty socks. My DeWalt now sits as a back-up saw. lol

I get it. I've been putting off repairing this for 2 months now.

I'm putting it off because I'm kinda at a cross-roads. I've broken a lot of shit on my rig because of the stupid shit I make IFS do. Johnson Valley, Fordyce, Isham and so on. Now I need to decide what to do. Options are.

Have my insurance total it. Problem here is I really like my rig.
SAS it. Problem here is 3rd gen 4Runners aren't an ideal SAS platform and end up being a collection of compromises.
Fix it and keep it IFS. Problem here is I'll continue to break it. A lot. lol

The reason I was looking at the higher end 1/2” impact is I have a lot of tires to care for. 34 to be exact. This would only come out when doing tire rotations or Crawler repair on the trail.

My two GN trailers require 175 ft lb tq and at times, removing the 1 1/8” lug nuts can be fun. I just don’t wanna be that guy that spends 200 on the lower output vs 50.00 more for the bigger one.

I have some friends with “other” brands that wouldn’t remove these lugs.

I like my rear handle flexvolt saw. Gots crazy power. Does shoot dust everywhere but oh well

There is a dust adapter you can buy for it..

Why are Dewalt tools so heavy compared to other brands? The guts are the same, the other brands last as well or better... so why are they so damn heavy?

My wife bought me a Dewalt box cutter knife for Christmas and it's probably twice as heavy as a normal box cutter. The same for every other Dewalt tool I've used. Why?

    NO Idea!

But yeah and no - the DeWalt 20VMax 1/2" impact driver is crazy heavy and weak for it's size and voltage.

The 6 1/2" DeWalt 20Vmax brushless circular saw is very light and VERY powerful.

FWIW my 12v 1/2” can break the 35mm 173 ft lb axle nut free with ease so the mid torque will be more than up to the task. If anything, the lighter tool the better for the rotation since it’ll be in your hand so much and the heavier impact will wear you out.

Sold! Great comparison. Probably right on getting the lighter weight tool.

Reread what I wrote. I wasn’t recommending it to him. Just that power wise if that little guy is up for the task, a bigger one would do even better.

I have both the mid 1/2" and the bigger one and use both daily. I can say that the mid will struggle a great deal to break loose the 35mm axle nut @175ft.lbs in that example. But will have no problems breaking loose crank shaft bolts..

The bigger 1/2" will have no problem breaking loose a 30mm pinion nut at 250ft.lbs.

I totally forgot about pinion nuts. Not long ago I was out with some CO TW members with a snow run and had my 14b pinion damn near come out. Sheared all the 1/2” bolts for the guard. That was a shit show. The week before I was doing some pretty gnarly trails and heard something give. Found out on that trip before even getting it off the trailer. Trying to break 350 ft lbs with no leverage really sucks. We did have a 3’ cheater, but it was still not optimal to remove and it was cold AF out.

I’m going big. The worst part of this experience is I was late for the run….and that is one of my biggest pet peeves.

Its a sickness :D In addition to what’s in the pics, I also have the big sliding miter setup on the dewalt folding stand, the smaller miter for mobility, the 20v router, a corded circular saw, reciprocating saw, and orbital sander. I probably forgot a tool or two.

lol… in my defense… I make a living using these tools. If not, my wife probably would’ve started asking serious questions a while ago

Once you buy into a system, it’s a lock. I’d like to try some Milwaukee tools, but no way am I buying anything but bare tools. I have enough batteries to run all day long.

I also make a living with my tools. I used the old style drop in DeWalt cordless for 10 years. Then switched to Milwaukee for about 5 years. Then went right back to DeWalt. I don't want to start the classic Dewalt/Milwaukee/Mikita argument. I'll just say in my own experience DeWalt makes a tougher, more durable tool. I still have all my DeWalts including the old 18V stuff. The only Milwaukee still in use is a sawzall I keep in the garage. YMMV.

How does that 20V 15 gauge angled finish nailer work for you? I do all my finish work with Hitachi air guns but am seriously considering picking up a 15g cordless.
