My tool choice comes down strictly to balance weight and ergonomics. DEWALT has good engineering and in the hand the weight is balanced and ergonomic.

I think the worst balanced and heavy and clunky are Rigid and Milwaukee.

For ergonomics and balance DEWALT is on top with hilti, followed by Makita than all the rest.

Wrong on all accounts. Dewalt makes nothing in the USA. It’s just assembled in the USA. Huge difference and really doesn’t make a difference.

I am a big fan of Makita. I bought one of their drill/ impact driver combos a few years ago and have been very pleased. IIRC, it is made in Japan. Quality is top notch and it feels great in the hand (and yes, that is what she said ).

I dropped the same one from about 20 feet yesterday, it bounced and was fine. I’ve also seen one fall from a 3 story roof and it was ok!

Where it is assembled doesn't make a material difference though I personally like to have more jobs here so I still seek those products out. That said the Dewalt products still are better quality than other cheaper products made in China. You can buy quality stuff from China (iPhones for instance) it just depends on what you pay.

I have an entire line of Dewalt stuff and came from Craftsman cordless tools... it is night and day difference in performance, durability, and frankly battery life with brushless motors. I can use my impact with a 2ah battery for a few days working on a deck and not have to worry about running out of power part way. The lighter battery causes less fatigue and frankly the control on the impact from Dewalt has much better finesse than my older cheaper tools which means I'm not driving the screw through the board by accident or having to hand snug smaller screws like on light fixtures.

A weekend DIY warrior doesn't need these but if you can afford them, they are seriously nice.

BTW I should point out that my Craftsman 19.2v tools lasted me 10+ years and served me well. Perhaps there just would have be less cussing if I upgraded sooner but they still did the job.

Makita and Milwaukee are really good. I used to work at home depot as a return to vendor... Dewalt would get returned at a crazy rate. They also outsold the other brands. I rarely would see Milwaukee or Makita get returned. I currently use a makita cordless drill daily, its gotta be over 10 years old still strong as ever.

Worked construction for 16 years and then recently built a custom home. Dewalt, Hilti, Milwaukee, and Makita are all good quality. The higher end Dewalt stuff is difficult to compete with. Some of the low end Dewalt stuff is not worth buying though. I own mostly Dewalt. But do have lots of other brands. No single brand can make the best of everything.

Yes they have their cheapy kits with regular brushed motors. They also offer cheapy brushless models now too.

I own only the higher end brushless tools and love them.

I've owned an older Ryobi cordless electric drill. I was disappointed with its weak torque capability. Being frustrated with it, I gave it away. I bought a Milwaukee corded electric drill that I still own. Great drill, good torque, but I don't like the electric cord. I bought a set of refurbished DeWalt cordless drill/impact driver with battery charger, 2 batteries, and storage bag from DeWalt's E-Bay website for under $200. Both of the DeWalt cordless drill & impact driver gets used on my truck or home repair/improvement projects. I'm happy with the DeWalt cordless tools, but give the Milwaukee electric drill respect for it's capability/build quality/design.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Makita or nothing. They're like fine surgical tools.
