    Thanks for the input.

I'll have to probably just compile a list of dealers to visit and do what I did with the truck. I just made a whole day of it going to different dealerships until Fort Worth actually had what they said they did on the phone.

I actually have no issues with the service department here at Sewell in WF. They are ordering my recall leafs and are going to re-install my add-a-leafs with them off of my current set for 60 bucks which saves me the trouble of removing the AAL and then reinstalling after the recall is done. I work with them sometimes on claims from time to time and they are always pretty fair.

It's just the sales side is problematic out here at any dealership really. You pretty much have to go to OKC or DFW to get a deal.

If you go to family Toyota in Burleson ask for frank. He helped us alot and was nice. They are slightly outside the metroplex so they have lower prices to draw business towards them. So they are more forward with you on best deals and such. I used to work at lexus of grapevine as a technician and know how salesmen can be.... I can't even use the language id like to about them but frank at Burleson was a nice guy. Even called me a year later just to ask how the truck was and if I still enjoyed my purchase. No sales tactics with it or anything. Just an honest phone call.

I think his sales tactic worked.. you just made a referral on his behalf. Seriously though, Thanks! I'll definitely make Burleson on my list.

Bahaha okay I'll give you that. But in today's market small things like that need praise. So I feel comfortable recommending him to someone because of that. I meant a sales tactic towards me. I know ones that call just to get you into a new car or get service work done by them.

Just giving you a hard time. There are good salesmen out there. If a salesman is fair with me and doesn't use cheesy or pushy tactics I'd recommend him as well.

On the opposite side, as soon as a salesman says "what will it take to get you into this car today?" I'm out.

Do your dealing over email, there are a bunch of Toyota dealerships in DFW and one has a hungry salesman that will deal with you

That's pretty much what I did with my truck. Worked pretty well except the first stop in Plano didn't actually have a 4x4.

Once I had confirmed what they all had and were willing to sell them for, I spent a day going around the dealerships to see the trucks in person. Fort Worth had exactly what they said they did and were more competitive on pricing.

Edit: I'm having a hard time being nearly as interested finding my wife a highlander as I was looking at Tacomas

A car is a car, if you are sure that the trim level is what you want, there's no need to test another LE Highlander. The black one should drive the same as the green one.

If you know exactly, what you want, color, trim, engine, transmission, make a deal for a theoretical vehicle. It exists somewhere in North Texas and I don't think dealers are unwilling to trade stock of midsize unibody SUVs.

That makes sense. Right now I'm trying to decide what dealer/s to test drive one at and I'll have to go to DFW(2hrs one way) to do that so I might as well be prepared to buy if we like it, which means I'll prob go to more than 1 dealer. Our dealer had only 4 and they where not close to LE. They usually only stock the highest few trim levels.

If I am ready to buy(when I go look at vehicles I usually am) and I am asked that I usually throw out a number thats about double off of what I am willing to pay. Its worked in the past.

I bought my Taco from Vandergriff(however its spelled) in South Arlington. I told the sales guy it would take 7% off of MSRP for me to "buy today" as thats what I was seeing them selling for on here on the big thread in the 3rd gen forum. After dicking around for 2 hours(after their closing time) with their shit "offers" and said "yea I am going home, its getting late, let me know if you can hit my number or not" and the guy comes back with 10% off MSRP...done deal. Why not just give me the 7% I asked for at first and be done 2 hours ago... and then come back with 10%. No clue.

Only reason I wouldnt recommend Vandergriff is that they add over 1000 worth of bull shit to the vehicles and i basically had to negotiate that shit off. $399 window tint for just the front windows=ill pay 99 bucks which is the going rate for front window tint. $299 paint protection package....hmm, the Toyota window sticker says this truck came from the factory with an optional $349 paint protection package so I am not paying you twice, so take off one or the other from the price. $199 for nitrogen filled tires...sorry thats a scam, and im not buying it. $199 for an "enhanced tailgate" but NOBODY could tell me what was "enhanced"=im not paying for that either... $199 for pin stripe....well fuckmerunning...its on there(subsequently I removed it LOL), guess you got me on that one. THEN the negotiations started from MSRP+addons, which I got to 10% off of that number. I think they count on most people being uneducated on all their "add on's" and with logical retorts to why I will not pay them for it or what I will pay, it wasnt hard for them to drop those items.

End of the day I was happy with the number, but just took to long.

I bought a VW one time where I walked in, show the dealer a competitors add that had basically the same car for 5k off MSRP, no special restrictions, said "can you match this price" the guy calls his GM on the phone, gives him the info, GM calls back in 5 minutes says "yep", was gone with the car in 45 more minutes. Best buying experience ever.
