Shit. I hope you feel better. Don't even bother measuring until your feeling better. What I am doing is purely academic, I don't think anything will come of it, more for fun really. I got one measurement already and just wanted a second to confirm.

I think what you have put together for custom shock is definitely better than what they are currently offering!

I know your not a fan of the Billys. I personally think they are undervalued, maybe due to price in the marketplace, but anyways, take a look at their 5125 universal series.

    STEM TO EYE

255/70 is good valving for rear leaf sprung. The one in green is an alternative to the RCD shock, and offers more travel and one inch more droop.

    However....

I haven't talked about this yet, because I'm not sure why it's happening, but on my truck, the driver side Dakar flexes out almost 1.25" more than the passenger side! I think it's the factory rubber bushing in the shackle giving me problems on the pass side, could be a characteristic of the spring pack too. Still investigating... All of this underscores the importance of measuring on each individual truck.

I would mount the Dakars and measure before you purchase anything.

    Interdasting.

I imagine shagged-out rubber bushings could be a factor, but I wouldn't think they would account for that entire amount of difference.

How were your Dakars coded for spec? In other words, did they have the +, -, or 0 codes, and if so which did you put on which side?

The shackle bushing design is somewhat unique as far as rubber bushings go. It is also a muther f***er. Removal is difficult. I regret not dealing with this when my leafs were off the truck last year.

Plus on driver, minus on pass side.

When I was flexing out the pass side, I measured and was like WTF? and I used my body to apply downward pressure on the wheel / axle and the shackle pulled forward some. I measured again and got like 0.25" more.

The pass side leaf pack, when in droop, doesn't "fan out" like I observed the driver, so that led me to believe, it was something about the pack itself.

I can't rule out the shackle either though--My next plan of attack was to droop out the driver side, and measure the angle of the shackle hanger when it's pulled all the way forward. Then I can do the same to passenger side and see if it's same angle. If it's not, then I'm gonna tap with a sledge to see if it's binding. If it's binding, I'm gonna take it off the truck and burn it with fire.

Hmm, so you do sorta have the maximum variance on spec from the factory. Mine are + and 0, which I was quite happy about.

It's stories like yours and other that has motivated me to do some of these bushing mods sooner than later. I just don't want to spend that much of my life redoing things and saying "fuck" even more than I already do, so I'm learning from the collective TW pain. I'm going to have to look a little more closely at the shackles. Sounds like I should also order some Energies for the frame end of the shackle, if I'm not mistaken.

Your plan for measuring and comparing angles sounds like a good next step to see where you droop is being robbed, and the burning with fire a logical escalation if necessary.

Agreed. I see all these guys fighting fucked up rusted in bushing issues, and I'd rather upgrade from day one. IMO, these trucks feel sloppy as shit driving off the dealer lot brand new. Ain't gonna git no better.
Thanks guys. I'm back to "normal," whatever that is, and Bennett is much better now too. I could tell as soon as I got home last night. I gave J Birthday Gift Phase 1 this morning, she took the morning off to take advantage of some brief sun and get her hair cut, we meet friends for pizza and beer after work, then she gets Gift Phase 2 with bourbon tonight after Ben goes to bed. If things go right, I'll give her Phase 3, too, IYKWIM. Then Phase 4 is date night Saturday at an old favorite restaurant we haven't been to in years, and then maybe some Phase 5, IYKWIM, after we get home from that, too.
