Hope it works out and you get the place. That's nerve racking.

In SoCal Realty news, they had an open house at the place across the street me. Over 72 people descended on the place like ants on a cricket. They ended up getting 40K over the already inflated asking price, signing a contract that day. I've never seen anything like it.

Ugh, the multiple offers thing. We got out bid on a house that had been on the market for 175 days. What luck, two bids all of a sudden after half a year of nothing. This was early 2010 and we didn't increase our offer. There was no way I was going to get into a bidding war in the middle of the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression.

Some parts of CA are just nutso beyond words these days. I have a friend that works at a big Silicon Valley company you've heard of and they just bought a house. 5br, 3ba, about 2500 sq ft, late 40s construction. Not a fixer upper per se, but kitchen needs a remodel and some other things need updating. Has a pool, decent size lot for CA but not huge. Menlo Park......

    $3.1M - I shit you not

Some sort of anti-reality bubble out there.

Hope everything works out on your offer!

Yeah. This area isn't as bad, but we get Bay Area refugees. That's not good for us. It happened in 2006, too.

This place had been on market 130 days. It poses a significant lifestyle change for us, so we did A LOT of homework. Schools, commutes, daycares, went out there several time to randomly meet people with kids in the parks to get a sense of the local vibe of the thing. Lined up the mortgage, everything loaded for bear, and I went in $25 under list, knowing I could come up from there and still be good. Then BAM WTF?

Still waiting to hear back anything else from the seller agent. I can sweeten it more, but not a lot. And who knows how the appraisal might come in anyway.

    $3.1m in menlo fucking park?

This belongs in the WTF thread. I can picture the house. All those things need to be razed in menlo. You can buy a 6 bed rm house here in FL for $450k damn near on the water. I paid $250K for my 2 bedroom and I live on a small peninsula with clear blue water a baseball line drive away. And mine was totally remodeled, didnt have to do a thing to it.
