That sounds good. Do you have to get all factory scheduled maintenance done at the dealer to retain the warranty?

Thanks for all your suggestions. I went back to the dealer and ask them to cancel the warranty. They were giving me excuses as to why thy didnt offer me the Toyota Platinum warranty. They said it would be descrimination if they gave me the warranty at a different price. YAH RIGHT!

I went ahead and bought even a better 8/100000 0 deductible for $944 Toyota Platinum Warranty from Midwest Toyota.

Heres the contact incase anyone is interested:

They will require proof of all the recommended scheduled maintenance and if you do not have any -- good luck with that .
I'd pass on any extended maintenance - and consumer reports recommends the same.

You are exactly correct sir, PASS on any extended warranty. The money handed over is pure profit for the stealership. I happen to have a very good friend in the car business.

The likelyhood of an owner using this warranty is mathmatically so remote its unbelieveable as a result it becomes pure profit. Consumer report got this one right. I have not purchased an extended warranty ever and have owned Toyota trucks since 1989. For what its worth....

I've never purchased an extended warranty on anything (electronics, vehicles, etc) and dont regret it yet. I've always been told that they make their money (and commission) on this part of any sale. Although I'm slightly tempted to on this one, I dont think I'm going to. The 1k I save can be used to purchase whatever part might break and I'll just do the install myself.
When I bought my truck, the guy who printed up the paperwork and who tries to sell the warranties was super nice... until I declined any additional warranties and some GAP insurance. His attitude turned to shit and didnt want anything to do w/ me afterwards. kinda funny.

when i bought my truck, i was offered a package and, if i took it, they lowered the interest rate more than a full percent. the lowered interest rate almost pays for the package over the life of the loan.

    so, the package contained:
    • lojack - $800
    • extended warrenty - $1600 - platinum - 7 year / 125k mile - zero deductable - covers everything except normal wear and tear
    • scheduled maintenance - $1400 - covers all scehduled maintenance up to 75k miles
i realize that the cost for each one may be on the high end, but it only ended up costing me $10 more a month.

Just curious, what was the interest rate after the package and had you shopped around to see if you could secure your own financing at a lower rate? Also, how many monthly payments (x $10.)? BTW, if you asked for a refund on the extended warranty(s), would you keep your lower rate?

This sums it all up on extended warranties, gap insurance, etc............ pure dealer PROFIT $$$.

Save your money do not get sucked in. Chris you made a wise choice. For what its worth.

i tried to shop around a little. however, my bank didnt offer unsecured auto loans.
    5% @ 66 months.
i hadnt considered asking for a refund on the extended warrenty. i would assume the lower rate would still apply, however

Actually, all auto loans are secured by the vehicle as collataral, that's what separates an auto loan from a personal loan, which is not secured and usually at a much higher rate. Based on some of the posts here, it sounds like you may be able to get way ahead by cashing in and purchasing from a low profit dealer...

Why does everyone seem to think they are getting ripped off when they buy mechanical coverage. first of all Plan b exclusionary coverage from Elite Protection plan is not backed by Toyota. It is a third party product. That doesnt make it bad, but it is more expensive then toyota extra care.
the only thing toyota extra care is less money on is toyota vehicles.
next, If all you care about is buying the cheapest warranty you can find, then expect to get what you pay for. the only place you can use toyotas warranty is at a toyota dealer. the third party agreement can be used at any repair facility.
And one of my biggest pet peves is the term Bumper to Bumper. GM is the only manufactuer that I can think of that uses that verbage. All vehicle service agreements have exclusions.
the sad reality is the neysayers of the world who are convinced the somehow got "ripped off" will not see the value in there purchase untill it saves them $3500.00 for a new transmisson. or $2000.00 for a/c, or who knows what for a new navigation system.
extended warrantys should be vieved just like life ins. we really hope we dont need it. but if we do.....
But one word to the wise, always buy the highest level of coverage available. dont be sold powertrain if exclusionary coverage is available. that will guarantee your dis-satisfaction. the term and miles are not important as long as it's the highest level of coverage offered.

Its hard for me to believe the stuff im reading on here. when you buy a new vehicle the manufactuer warranties it for (in Toyota's case 3years/36000 miles.) one might go out on a limb here and say the part of the vehicles life when the least is likely to fail. after that, the powertrain, (motor, transmission and a few other parts) are covered up to 5years/60000 miles. these componants have a very low failure rate. after that you are on your own, the point in the vehicles life when then start to ware out and fail. also the point where your extended service agreement will do you the most good. In today world is seems most people are trading or selling their cars about this time. so the perception is the warranty they bought wasnt any good. well, thats why you can cancel or transfer ownership of the balance of that contract to the next owner.
the notion that warrantys are "pure profit" to the dealer is just someone talking who has no idea what their talk about. Warrantys have a dealer cost that range from about $700.00 to $1800.00 depending year, make , model and miles. and the the dealer adds profit to that number. and yes the finance manager make his or her paycheck selling these items.
But when someone gives you great advice like "dont but a warranty, or gap ins. isnt worth anything. Ask them to sign a contract with you that they will be happy to pay any expenses incurred on you by there bad advice and watch how fast they back peddle. these prouducts are not out there to rip anybody off. although I cant speak to the integrety of everyone in the auto business. I have seen gap and warranties save people thousands of dollars. I simply isnt a one size fits all issue. do whats best for you and dont be swayed ignorant advice.

Has anyone ever tried to use one of these, and been turned down or hassled by the dealer? Or given a runaround about it?

i bought my warranty from troy at toyota of greenfield in mass. dude was legit and super easy to work with. Paid $880, when the truck was a couple days old for 7yr /100k, 0 deductible and all the other bells and whistles that come with it. He's still there, talked to him the other week.

never had a problem using it but really never needed to.

friend had all sorts of a/c related issues at 70k or something and had no troubles at all with the toyota xtra care iirc.

Thats why I bought a Toyota- when most go over 100,000 miles, or have no major problems in 7yrs, Why? My truck has 39000 in 4rs, 3 months. (no problems) At that rate, I will not hit the 100k mile mark in 7yrs. If I doubled my mileage, at approx. 5yrs or so I would I would be over the 100K mile marker. Either way, I am confident my truck would be running great at either point considering my maintenance and our truck's history.
Save your money and cash in the second coverage unless your feeling unlucky, or are hard on your vehicles and or have poor maintenance skills :D
