I don't think a thief would have a nice retaining wall like this guy.

They also wouldn't have disconnected the security cables from the truck.

However, I appreciate the effort OP. I hate car thieves as I've had two vehicles stolen from me and my cars broken into countless times... grew up in a bad neighborhood :spy:. I wouldn't mind having these types of posts, posted more often and catch some of these bastards.

Plot twist. He afforded that nice wall from all the stolen tail gates he's been selling:bananadead:
    But really, this looks legit.

Ad does look legit. Buuuut, if I were selling stolen tailgates I would try to make it look legit. Then again I’ve never done that, sooo my opinion is irrelevant:facepalm:
    Good look @Taco_Coma

Quick question: Does locking the tailgate generally prevent this sort of theft? I usually leave mine locked, but haven't installed any aftermarket locking equipment.

Yes, it will prevent theft, as much as anything can. Sadly, if someone really wants something, and they have the time and resources, they'll steal it, regardless of preventative measures. However, if you lock your tailgate, that should be sufficient to keep it safe. The only problem is when you forget. They make locks for the hinge, that allow the tailgate to remain unlocked. Others have just put a simple hose clamp around the hinge. Not fool proof if the thief has tools, but usually slows them down or deters the opportunistic type.

Yeah that’s being on there for quite a while now. I’m a cL addict so I check NNJ cL every hour. I think $1050 is extortionately high for a tailgate. eBay have them for around $500 shipped brand new. Sometime with the 10-15% coupon it’s a no brainer

With this lock and the pop and lock, I hope to always have my tailgate for the life of the truck.

If I found someone selling property they stole from me?... Not sure how it would turn out, but I'd contact the police to see if they could escort me to a meeting point to "buy" my items back.

You couldn't tell that was sarcasm? You think he would give you an extra key to his truck because it matches the tailgate?

    I can't tell if you're joking now.

Right!? Because criminals only have crappy retaining walls everyone knows that!!

    :D

First thing I do when buying off Craigslist is ask for a photo of the seller's retaining wall... it is just a GOOD SOP...
