Just wondering if anyone got an ECU software update when they got their fuel pump recall replacement since mine is scheduled in two weeks?

EDIT: "...if anyone was given an ECU update..."

    EDIT2: "...without asking for it..."

No. I had to take mine in and explain the ECU update and the symptoms the truck was displaying. You could always ask them to do it though. Some dealers won't bat an eye and do it, others will refuse all together. It's weird.

Might want to check to see what your truck is currently running before asking for something you might already have.

I can’t recall the exact steps but your head unit or it’s the one next to the Speedo can give you what flash your truck is currently on. Wish I could remember the steps for you but I bet google can get it for you.

Hm I didn’t know this was an option. Interested in the ideal version and how to check what mine has.

Yeah I’ve read you can have dealers set an option in the ECU to remember/make stick your settings for turning off TSS options (PCS, etc). My dealership pretty much told me to fuck off.

Yeah there is another dealership that’s equidistant. I just only think about calling them on the weekends after the service department is closed. Believe it or not the salesman I dealt with was awesome. Wouldn’t hurt to have him ask. I’ve given him referrals and stopped in to talk to him multiple times and he’s super helpful. Might be worth seeing if he has a homie in the service department.

Next step is bringing in the TSB that clearly states they have the ability to do what I’m asking.

Yea you pretty much have to shove the info under their nose then should do it. I’m pretty lucky my dealership is pretty good so far.

Dealer here in my area knew exactly what I was referring to; both the recall (pump) and the TSB that identified an upgrade to the ECM. Upon my inquiry for service, they did both services, no questions asked.

One has to read the ECM to determine what version is in the control module. Radio does not do that for you (made me laugh a little). Dealer can also read the ECM and flash if needed. One can read the ECM with any one of multiple gadgets that can do this. Many threads here for that information.

Google is a proper noun, not a verb.

Different devices show you firmware in different ways. There's no reason why it couldn't be displayed in the Settings menu in the radio.

Nope I have ovtune. I went in dropped it off picked it up next day all that was done was the fuel pump and cleared any error codes it may have caused ( mine went into limp mode day I dropped it off).

You seem to be a Toyota expert, maybe you should call the President in Japan and suggest it.

I have the same dilemma too. My dealer asked me to come back to replace my fuel pump for the recall but I had a full tank of gas at that time. When I asked to update the ECU they said my truck already has the correct version but I forgot to ask which version so I can check in TW which version I should get

I had over a half tank. They drain and refill it.

I have no idea how Toyota or it's dealers work/think BUT everytime I take one of my Ford's in for service it automatically get hooked up to ford link that's constantly getting updated by the minute BY ford I get the latest updates fresh off the geniuses? desk @ ford if I want it or not PERIOD
I've had issues fixed I never new I had & others I wished like hell I could get deleted (it can't)

One stupid ass move on my part was leaving my Hypertech tuner loaded in the ECM, when ford link was hooked up & the latest greatest updates were downloaded "poof" it deleted my tuner.......never to be seen again now I have a nice paper weight with the stock tune in it AND a stock tune in my ECM

    How nice

Just scheduled my fuel pump replacement and they said they would not drain/refill and I would be rescheduled if it had over half a tank, so obv YMMV...
