Nope. It is knocking. Does it all the time. Never did that sound until about a few days ago. I already checked out a few 2.7s one was a 2018 with 80,xxx miles on it and it did not make that noise. I checked out a 2021 and 2 new 2022s none of them made that sound.

100% from the bottom. From the top you can only hear it near the driver side rear corner, but it is not as loud from the top. I can hear from the back left of the truck as I walk up to it.

Spray water on the pulleys and belt and see if it changes sound.

I posted 3 videos, not the same. My truck is knocking and very loud at the bottom of the engine in the center rear.

Nope. I like the actual truck and style. Did lots of research on the 3rd Gen and decided the 2.7 was best. I went with the Tacoma 2.7 because I wanted reliability. I was even willing to do a even exchange and give them the doc fee if necessary, but not now. I fail Toyota dropped in quality on the 3rd Gen Tacoma, maybe the current Mexico built Tacomas are just Poorly built.

    Lemon = poorly manufactured product.

Throwing the shifter into park will not lock up modern vehicles and will not in most older ones. Engine failure can cause the engine to stall and seize resulting in lock up. Transmission failure can do the same. Both of these are safety hazards, especially when driving on the highway or turning into traffic.

I already checked out 4 2.7s, 1 used 2018 with around 80,XXX miles, 1 used 2021, and 2 new 2022s and none of them made the knocking sound. The dealer I purchased the car from had a few, but they lied to me and said they did not, I pointed to the showroom that was filled with Trucks. Lol. And at-least 2 of them were 2.7s and they have 4 plus in stock. One just like the one I have, in different color, that has been on the lot since I purchased my truck. Since lies do not work with me because I am always analyzing, remembering, and researching everything.

The warranty does not help if the vehicle is out of service for months, the dealer is acting dumb, and lying right to my face.

I completely understand why the dealership is giving you the treatment they are. I'd throw my hands up if some dude was throwing around Lemon Law without taking the car in for service.

It's under warranty. It's not going to take months to solve the problem. You are literally your worst enemy in this whole situation by not actually taking the car in for service. If you want to Lemon the car, go through the actual Lemon Law process instead of dramatically complaining on the internet.

Toyota Corporate is going to tell you to take your car in for service. That's it. They won't "pull through" and give you a new truck without figuring out a problem.

I did bring it for service, right to their drop off bay so they could hear. There were no other cars in line. I have every right to bring up the lemon law. I brought it up because I wanted it fixed and not sitting at the dealer for months. You do understand I could have just left it there, said nothing about lemon law, and came back 15 business days later, and taking the truck home, and filed for lemon? I was the one trying to be reasonable and honest and they were trying to act dumb and dishonest.

I wanted them to start one so they can show me it was normal sound, they did not want to. They even knew it was not normal. I did give them a chance and they get another after I speak to Toyota today. They were down playing the sound until the tech went under the truck and even then they acted like they did not want to even attempt anything.

I know they going to tell me to take in for service. And it is going right to that dealer and the clock start that day. I was going to leave it their but Toyota rep recommended holding off to they call me back. The difference is Toyota going to tell them they have to take it that day and diagnosed it with in a reasonable time frame.

They had no problem selling it to me and now they have no problem marking up vehicles, but I have to possibly wait months for my brand new truck to be diagnosed and fix.

Go listen to the videos. It is much louder in person. Head tech and service advisor were acting like they could not hear it at first.

I had a 4 cylinder s10 single cab, it was a great little truck, but slower than a 3 cylinder geo metro running on 2 cylinders. Only issue I had with it was gas cap check engine light. It was almost mint condition at about 115,000 miles when I sold it.

That's not a service visit. Sorry.

Again, take it in for a service visit. Your truck won't be at the dealer for months.

You were not acting reasonable at all, that's why they treated you the way they treated you. They were not acting dumb or dishonest, you straight up won't leave your truck with them. How are you not understanding that no one is going to Lemon Law a car without attempting to repair the vehicle?

They would have done that already if you would have simply left your truck with them for service. You've wasted a hilarious amount of time trying to sort this out. Take your truck in for service.

Dude, no one is waiting months to diagnose a problem, no one is going to take months to fix your problem. You haven't even taken your car in. It could be something that takes literally one minute to repair. Take your truck in for service. Act polite like a normal person.

OP, these trucks do make some weird noises, yours definitely sounds a little loud for comfort.
Couple questions: did it make any noise at all when you test drove it? Is it louder while driving it?

I would ask the dealer to pull a new truck with the same engine from his lot right next to yours and fire it up to see if it makes the same noises. Run them both at the same time…there’s your answer.

it was a services visit, they wanted me to make an appointment for about month out but leave my truck at the lot. I wanted an appointment made for that day, but they did not have to rush look at, remember 15 business days is about 2 weeks and 3 days, they are open 6 days a week for service. They could have look at it the second week or the last day and I would have had no problem. I just need proof of the the drop off. This is the second time the truck has been to them for warranty issues, first time they wanted me to wait about 2 months for and appointment.

I know I have to leave my vehicle with them, and give them a chance to fix it. I know the law. I wanted to leave it, but needed documentation dated the day I dropped it off. They did not want to give that to me, they wanted to give me documentation of an appointment about 1 month out.

Did you leave the dealership with paperwork stating you were there and the reason? If not, it’s not technically a ‘service visit’… ask me how I know.

It is even louder in person.

No noise for the first 3 months about 1600 miles. I loved it, it was so quiet when idling and cruising. The only sound was injectors and fan blowing sound when the hood was open. It is not louder while driving but the sound does not go away. The sound seems to increase as the truck warms up, but that could be just the engine revving down and making less rev noise.

I already checked other trucks at other dealers two used and 2 new. They did not want to let me check the other trucks in the show room. One of them has been there since I purchased my truck and is the same specs as my truck, different color.

I check the fluids and do a general walk around inspection once a week.
