image.jpg image.jpg i would like to have a post that benefits more people than just myself but I feel like this is a unique situation and I'm not sure I'm getting an honest answer from my tire shop.

I recently put 285s on my 2016 Tacoma and just noticed today that one of the brand new KO2s was a 265.... Called the shop and told them what had happened and they were very apologetic and said I need to only worry if I've put it in 4 wheel drive. Well I had it in 4 lo to get to my fishing spot and needed to get back with 4 lo so that didn't sit well with me . The question is, did there mistake possibly damage my drivetrain at all? ( 800 miles give or take with the odd tire they decided to put on) thanks guys!

Edit: (to protect all you fellow tacomowners) discount tire was the culprit

I don't think the likely hood that any damage occurred is high, does the truck drive ok? In theory its not the best situation for your diff as you have/had a different ratio going on there. Hard to know/tell. I'd say let them fix it, and hopefully all is okay, worst case scenario your still covered under warranty later down the road. But I bet its fine ;)

It'll be fine. But the conspiracy theorists might think otherwise

I doubt any long term damage but damn, what a stupid mistake. Bad look for that shop.

Yelp that shit so the shop learns from its mistake and does whatever it takes to keep idiots from touching anything in the future.

This forum is awesome! So many quick replies and all with answers I wanted to hear haha. Thanks guys yeah hopefully someone who has the same issue (somehow) would look and benefit from this. It is a dumb mistake tho I'm actually suprised it took me 800 miles to notice.. Shows how 265 look great on the new trucks :)

Hey, I'm in Seattle area too. If you're not comfy saying it here, pm me the name of the shop so I make sure to avoid them. Thanks.

It has a rake? It's higher in the back than the front I thought bro lean was the other way ha. I did the lift to make sure I have a rake still for hauling and towing. But yeah the pictures could make it seem off

He's fckng with you.. In the unlikely event your diff craps out, get rid of the evidence trail that it wasn't toyotas fault.

Haha gotcha, yeah I'm pretty sure my warrenty will be null once I put the right lift on this anyways. I have a spacer and hate it so going with the OME kit.

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
It'll be fine... Just pretend it never happened.

covered yes, but make damn sure that that 265 isn't on if it goes in for warranty. If they see that they'll think you're an idiot and probably say you voided your warranty and caused the damage.

It wasn't noticeable to me, maybe in person. Like I said I doubt you messed anything up. We all are a bit obsessive when it comes to our precious tacomas so totally understandable.
